Yeah, because those games have the same audience...Seriously, I think that would be a dumb move by them. The monster hunter audience is on PSP and they will probably move on to NGP.

I didn't say they have anything in common, but if Capcom get's happy with SF 3D sales they might consider a port. Also, whats this about Monster Hunter gamers upgrading to the NGP just because it was on the PSP? They will go where the game is, no matter what platform it is. The the Monster Hunter audience wasn't supposed to be on the Wii either is what some said.

Or DQ audience with DS. Now is the best selling DQ, while MHTri on Wii has very good sales for a homeconsole MH.

Not meaning to protect the Wii or anything...but aren't some people calling doom after 1 week a bit... premature? We saw what happened last year. And the Wii is in its 5th year. When you've sold over 85 million units in little over 4 years, you expect there to be some slowdown, especially when your competitors are riding the back of new games and add-on releases

What happened last year? Wii now sells well just during the holidays, we know, but even outselling 360 and ps3 in December will mean nothing if it is outsold by them all the rest of the year, and right now, with price cut possible for everyone and no big games for Wii, how could it possibly prevent this? I expect Nintendo to cut for the 4th consecutive time their predictions on Wii hardware, 15m for the whole year, very scary considering the original prediction was 20m.

Last year? All of the consoles were very close up until Christmas, where it well and truly thrashed the competition...

This year will no doubt be the same, all close throughout the year, but the holiday season will be Nintendo's

Slowdowns are quite normal, even for market leaders. Having your sales almost halved in one year is not normal.

But, it hasn't almost "halved" now has it?

Or has it? I thought it was more like "28% down"...

Sure but in January was ahead of both the HD consoles. Now it's down about 40% and had just had an holiday season. It won't recover the gap between the other systems, except for PSP. Wii will probably sit around 115-125k, maybe even dipping under 110k in there's not a price cut before the summer. Anyway, until xmas it will be outsold by the HD console and by the 3DS. Just some games as big ad NSMBW or a redesign could prevent this (a price cut would boost it by 20-30%, but it's not enough).

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

-50k from the leader in sales is not very close up. This year looks very different to last year.

Last week it was 42% down yoy and still on it's way down. Pretty close to almost halved if you asked me. The yoy drop grows and has grown weekly and there's nothing on the horizon to turn the trend any time soon. The overall drop yoy for 2011 might be around 28% but that number is growing fast and will eventually reach the same levels as last week in the overall numbers (most likely, there's no such thing as a sure thing).

Righto, let's do this all at once:

This is thefirst week of which it's been down considerably compared to the HD consoles. Other weeks it was either ahead, or within a couple of k. So it's possible, and likely, that this week was anomolous, let's wait to see in a couple weeks time when 3DS has launched to see what the long-term effect is!

@Buzzi- That's possible (and likely!) but the other consoles will likely follow suit. And a price cut does magic, especially in the dry summer months...look at the 360 re-design, for example!

@Mummelmann- Really? 42%?

I'd expect it to settle more likely at around 30% drop, so around 13mil this year, and that isn'bad if you ask me!  Did something happen at this time last year then?

I also don't see the drop growing again, at all, anytime soon. It will likely be UP YoY some weeks this year (Around October/Launch of Wii2/Maybe at holidays), so the effect will be less brutal. This time last year was also amazing for the Wii, let's not forget!

Dead Space 2 deserves way more sales than that.

After 3 weeks on both the PS3 and 360, it only just hit 1 million.

Wii needs a new game like Wii Cook, Wii Walk, Wii Sleep to put it at the top again.

I agree, Dead Space 2 is a awsome game and deserves way more sales then wha it is getting. htis time of year people are broke.

About Malstrom, he is back...here are some parts from his new "the incredible 360" article:

Microsoft cannot be pleased at all about the 360′s performance of late. Anyone who thinks this performance is ‘good’ has not been paying attention to the massive amount Microsoft has spent

Half a billion dollars just for marketing? And what did this get Microsoft?

Tepid sales.

NPD January 2010:

Xbox 360- 332,800

NPD January 2011:

Xbox 360- 381,000

OH MY GOODNESS! THAT IS A 48,000 UNIT INCREASE!

What co-option!

What a selling to the masses!

48,000 unit increase! Oh my!

1 For trying hard... LOOL

LOL yeah ...

I'm only gonna address the first bit.

A) Shortages in U.S
B) 500 mill is for up to 2012. Meaning it hasn't all been spent yet ...

PS3 and 360 up in the air, Wii limping... you'd be laughed at had you presented the former in 2009... and ridiculed if you even dared say that the PSP would be above it XD

All in all, this is a good week for ME specifically - if it continues dropping, then perhaps we can have a price drop to $150 - I'll be getting it then!
