You missed something important.  The 3DS Developers who want to take advantage of the 3d capabilities will HAVE to exclude or LIMIT the gyroscopic and six axis motion sensing technologies so as to make sure the 3d effect works.

Developers for NGP will end up utilizing the motion sensing capabilities in a much deeper and relevant way because there will be no need to cater to a 3d effect.

That, I think, is going to be one of the game altering factors come this next portable generation.  And it's a shame since I think it's the only thing that makes me sad about the 3DS.

Developers have options. The ablility to turn of the 3D effect...

Then what's the point of the 3Ds? Why not just buy the DS or original PSP for that matter?

3D is an option, Nintendo made that very clear. No the 3DS is far superior than the DS or original PSP. You know fair enough what they are, for example better online experience, better graphics, analogue pad, motion sensor.......

For example if you decide to play in 3D mode you don't really utilize the motion sensor for tilting but for 2D mode that option is available. There's nothing complex about it.

You forgot to mention the AR, which is the thing that I'm most excited for on the 3DS :(

This can be done with NGP as well

He probably meant 3DAR?

what exactly is 3DAR if I may ask?

-_- then it's the same tech, just how you view it is different. AR will look really good on the OLED screen with (possibly) better cameras on the NGP too. OLEDAR would be awesome!

AR in barebones, yes, they are the same.

The difference here is that, 3DS will be capable to give you the feedback in 3D on its 3D screen with its 3D cameras.

and with the high quality OLED screen, with the better resolution etc, the AR will look closer to what really is, hence an improved experience.

It is flawed because it is not true 3D.

But i agree the beautiful OLED screen was over the top and is subjective

How is that "not true 3D"? That link shows how the parallax barrier display tech is used to deliver a different image to each eye, and that's how all stereoscopical 3D devices work.

As for the comparison between the devices, I'd add something I found interesting: control-wise the 3DS has moved "away" from natural controls with rspect to the DS, trading a touch screen for an analog - as far as I understand. At the same time the NGP has moved towards natural controls in comparison to the PSP, with a touch screen and the reverse touchpad - in addition to the double analog for more apt gamers.

Interesting. BUt in the end it depends on the games they got, no point in having lots of potential but no games that utilise that potential. Still its nice to see the specific differences

I'm still asking myself what is the point of this thread?

To be able to better compare the two devices without resorting to list wars.

@ WereKitten

The 3DS still has a touchscreen, so nothing has been lost compared to the DS.

@ darthdevidem01

Games will be important, but I'm excited to see how the two hold up in the long run when compared to smartphones and the like. Smartphones have changed what people expect to get from their portable devices these last few years after all.

@ OP

Alright, I updated the OP with some new points.
