I have been pessimistic about this title since it was announced, thinking that Bioware would do like they did with Mass Effect 2 and what other RPG developers seem to be doing lately; watering down and replacing depth and value with action and effects.
Lo and behold, I was right. This would make me really cross if it weren't for two things; one being The Witcher 2 on the horizon and the other being the fact that I saw it from a mile off. Bioware are losing their shit and turning into another Activision/EA action frenzy super duper pimpled teenager mashfest. Oh, well, enjoy!

Hey, so, the Witchers good yeah? I read the novel and it's all very interesting, but the games kinda weird. Does the plot get any better after the first couple of hours and is it just me or is the voice acting and lip syncing pretty bad? I stop playing a few weeks ago and I've been hoping to get back to it, but the early plot, voice acting and lip syncing are kind of putt me off.
Can you spare some wisdom?
OT: Day something something. It sucks that I can't use my original character, it feels like the whole first game was kind of pointless when I don't even get to use the chracter that I put 30 hours into. Hopefully the plot, charm and combat are as good as the last game, otherwise I may just wait until it drops in price.

The Witcher starts off slow. The voice acting farther in is pretty good but has some issues with the lip synch in certain areas. There are patches that can mend this though, at least that's what I seem to remember.
The Witcher opens up for real once you get into the first city, the plot, sidequests, shops and available locations to explore expand quite a bit. I'd say somewhere around the 3-4 hour mark, it will start to take off in terms of story and characters. The thing I really enjoy about The Witcher is that it doesn't play and behave exactly like all other 3rd person RPG's, and once you get the hang of the timing with combos and unlock more avdvanced moves for both Silver and Steel blades, the game gets really fun! Some of the locations are simply awesome, they draw upon the more typical fantasy archetypes but somehow manage to differentiate themselves through being more "real", in both looks and sound.
All in all, the first couple of hours must be seen almost as a tutorial, not unlike Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights 2 and a few other more linear RPG's. I can strongly recommend The Witcher, if you liked the books, there are hundreds of cool and familiar elements that will please you and Geralt may seem one dimensional at first but he gains more depth as you go along. This is also the best game I've ever played in terms of mixing action and RPG elements. The action lends depth rather than steal it through the clever way it is implemented. Even though I was a tad put off by the combat at first, it grew on me and now remains among the coolest in any RPG I ever played. The Witcher 2 seems like it could be GOTY material, the visuals, levels and combat are out of this world! Go check it out!
