Forums - Sales Discussion - X360 only 630k more units than PS3 for the whole of 2007

We all consider 2007 to be a big failure for the PS3 but with a $500-600 price for 10 months out of the year and "no games" (360 owners want us to believe this one, rofl) it's amazing to see that the 360 could only sell a mere 10% more for a full year.

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 07th Jan 2007 to 16th Dec 2007:

I can't believe the PS3 will do worse next year. I actually think the PS3 can double it's 2007 sales with the lower price and lots of new titles.

Am I alone? Anyone here realistically believes the PS3 can do worse or repeat the "crappy" performance of 2007?

I think in 2008 the Ps3 might eat down that 7.3M lead to 3.5M or even less.

I expect it to sell nearly 12m for 08 jumping to 20m or more by years end.

I honestly expect it to double from this years 7M. Up to 14M ;)

Its only a failure when you consider that people expected it to do exactly what the Wii did this year instead of being 630k below the Xbox 360. It other words, it still came in third place but was expected to come in first with 70% marketshare like its predecessors

@eugene

This year *key word*

I expect it to increase also with 17 million sold by years end.

Bet with OriGin: Within 1 year Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be ahead of Mario Kart Wii (when aligning the one whole year from each region). 2 week ban from Vgchartz for the loser. Edit: Darn! Looks like OriGin will win.

Well "logically" it HAS TO increase..

as not only this but it didn't get 2 MONTHS of EU in this year

Other Reason.

LOWER PRICE, GT5, MGS4, GTA IV

It will double this year I think & make around 18 - 20 million by JAN 1 09....

You're right about the disappointment of not being #1 but that's not the question. We all know Sony screwed up releasing the PS3 at $600. This is exactly why I posted. With all the sh*t Sony screwed up they still did pretty close to 360 that had 1 year advantage to build a game library and market mindshare.

I don't think any of the consoles will do worse next year, but I think any significant ground the PS3 makes will be countered even more significantly by Microsoft. I think the Elite will go down in price to the point where window shoppers will start buying them along with GTA4. Lets not forget there are a lot of exclusives coming out on the 360 next year. I keep hearing people saying that Microsoft is running out of steam but I just don't see that happening. Imagine if in January Too Human comes out and it sells as well as something like Gears of War, I doubt this will happen but it is possible, especially if it's really good because there won't be any competition when this game comes out. Even if it sells as well as Bioshock it will cause massive damage because there will be nothing new on PS3 at that time. I see both systems increasing next year but I see the 360 increasing more.

I (ironically) have to agree with eugene.

The X360 won't be slowing down next year. The PS3 was *supposed* to sell 5m units on no games at $500-600. Sony has had to drop the price twice, because sales have been so ungodly abysmal.

In the same timeframe of the PS2, the PS3 has floundered, horribly. It took a $200 pricedrop to even get it close to the X360.

The question is if people will buy the PS3 @ $400 throughout next year or not.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
