Anyone expecting less than 500 bucks for this type of technology is just setting themselves up for disappointment IMHO.

Please elaborate on why you think the NGP will cost $500 or more at launch.

Nope it wont be that expensive Sony said it'll be affordable.
Though Tretton seemed to suggest we'll see a price somewhere northward of the Nintendo 3DS's $250, Yoshida was quoted as saying "It's not going to be $599," laughing off the idea that the system would cost as much as the PlayStation 3's infamous appraisal at launch, and House said that Sony "will shoot for an affordable price that's appropriate for the handheld gaming space."
Enough said.

He's a contrarian when it comes to things SCE related.
I am more worried about the cost of developing games for the system, if it is too high some developer might not want risk it by making games for the console.
no its going to be high id say $399 so it wont shock me it its high or higher than $399 id be shocked its less than $349 products that come out now are usually quite expensive the 1st few yrs of release especial electronics
im more concerned bout the oled screen theres a reason why we havent seen oled tvs
and the hacking you know hackers are gunning for sony now after all these law suits ect.

Yeah I noticed his shenanigans in another NGP thread. Cabeza, if you are going to take a contraversial position, elaborate upon it and provide data, facts and info to support your position if you want anyone to take you seriously.

On the one hand I'm afraid NGP could be so cheap that it actually sells better than 3DS. On the other hand, that would force Nintendo to lower their price, which I would appreciate. Because it's too freakin expensive for me.
I don't really see Sony selling the NGP at a big loss. They must still be recovering from the PS3. If you think about it - it was highly subsidized for almost 3 years (if I remember correctly), and still hasn't sold half of what PS2 had in the same timeframe from launch. The NGP looks very high end... so unless their willing to lose money for several years again, it can't possibly be cheap.
But we'll see.
Well... I'm not. I'm not getting it at launch x)

That was my first thought when SCE announced 5" display.
There are video players currently on the market under $200 with OLED displays (albeit not 5"), so OEM suppliers can already produce them at mass consumer friendly prices.
But SCE has their high yield OEM source for OLED displays. I think they manufacture their own since they produced the first commercial OLED TV, the XEL-1 and continue to make press releases on in-company developments of the technology. As pioneers of the tech, it's practically a shoe-in that Sony will be its own OEM supplier for the OLED displays.
The GameStop $299 pre-order has me thinking that my original estimate of $299 for the base model is now the most likely MSRP.
