Forums - Sony - Anyone concerned about possible launch price for the NGP?

The NGP has generated a lot of buzz on here.  It looks like it has awesome specs, and excellent control configuration that can do about anything, and I like the card/cart format.  Missing is likely 3D, but that may not be critical.  But the buzz is so high, I swear people are saying they have committed now to buying one, day one release.

Well, I am curious, isn't anyone concerned that NGP would pull another "$599?" with a price point too high?  Couldn't Sony drop the ball again? On this note, what would be the right price point?  I do see $300 tops to really be successful with it at start (say the Wifi only one here).

A lot of people are concerned, but you can only wait. Some people will pay the 350 price tag if you look at the polls. I would pay 249.99-299.99. Maybe 349.99, but I doubt it.

Well.

I believe the max price will be $350 for the 3g version

I don't think Sony will price it over $300 no matter how much it costs to make. It would sell terribly above that and I think they know it.

It will probably be 300-350, which is good for the tech involved

Time for hype

Kinda, but I'm very certain that I won't be getting one at launch/first year, which is why I didn't say "yes".

GameStop is currently taking pre-orders at $299 with a $50 deposit if that's any indicator.

I'm not sure what the ramifications would be for them if they had to charge pre-order buyers more than that once SCE released the official MSRP.

They did say one SKU will have 3G which could make the 3G version anywhere up to $399 if it also included more internal NAND memory (32GB instead of 16GB), maybe as low as $349.

The general feeling I'm getting from a lot of consumers is that those who are legitimately interested in buying the product are saying a $299 price is acceptable to them.

Nope, im trusting Sony on this one, There will be 2 SKU's so my guess is $299 16GB NGp and $399 32GB Black or White 3G NGp.
