Forums - Sony - Epic Games: Sony's Next Gen Portable is a "Pretty Huge Deal"

well from the tech demo I would say infinity blade seems to be the most likely candidate along with pretty much any other unreal engine game for the iPad

Then I still need a reason to want to buy an NGP.

I think you will have to wait till E3 for that, most of the "games" shown so far have been tech demos as SONY apparently kept reminding people during the presentation. Most of the confirmed games have no details so of coarse it's hard to be exited about them yet. But at E3 I am sure SONY will show a plethora of games, I mean they must know they need a broad range of quality sofware to sell this thing and I would hope they have at least one of their top their top tier studios working on an original title for the system, Naughty Dog and Insomniac don't seem to be and polyphony and team Ico take to long so that leaves Zipper, Guerrilla Games, Sucker Punch Productions, Santa Monica Studio and Ready at Dawn (who are probably working on another of their great God of war titles for the NGP). I  hope they aren't all ports and spinoffs (not that spinoffs can't be great) like most of the 3DS lineup lol.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Dear Epic Games,

Your games have been less than epic since the original Unreal Tournament. Bring back the real Unreal games, and not that bullshit that is Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal 3 because those are NOT UNREAL games at the core.

Thanks,

"A truly portable high-end gaming experience just seems so awesome to me," he said. "I've said for a while that triple-A isn't going away, it's going everywhere. The idea of a portable device that delivers the kinds of high-performance dual-analog stick experiences I can get on a console definitely appeals to me as a gamer and the NGP can do that and so much more."

So, what does triple A games have to do with pretty graphics again?

This thread took an interesting turn. Someone's stating the obvious and finds himself under attack. Some people are acting way too defensive lately and can't take the slighest bit of not-favoring-their-platform-of-choice.

M.U.G.E.N., you really need to re-read the thread. You shouldn't act surprised to read an insulting line directed towards you, if you were the one to launch several personal insults first. Additionally, there was a lot of misinterpretation coming from your side coupled with ignorance to understand the justification of HappySqurriel's initial comment. IF there's a meltdown in this thread, then it's you, not him.

Why are Epic Games' comments not surprising at all? Because Epic Games wants to sell their Unreal Engine to as many developers as possible. Nintendo platforms have not much potential for profitability for them, because almost all developers can easily get by by building their own engines. Other platforms have much higher development costs, so licensing an engine becomes a common practice and since the NGP enters PS3/360 territory it's right in the ballpark where Epic Games wants it to be.

Remember that they didn't give a damn for the original PSP, that's because they couldn't sell their Unreal Engine for it.

Mugen did defend it by misinterpretation, but happySqurriel is still completely off topic and just plain baiting. I mean really "graphics whore blah blah" nonsense is just asking for it.

OT: Gears for NGP please.

Its nice to have a game that looks pretty sometimes you know. Either way, the article has nothing to do with that.

Look at the quote I put on my post, right after saying it is nice to have a high end portable system he states that triple AAA games are not going anywhere. While they are different quotes, I doubt he didn't want to link them.

He could mean anything, like maybe the dual analog sticks?  Or maybe the online capabilities? Graphics are never mentioned in the article.

I'd swear Rein has made a statement dismissing the 3DS before, has he not? There's significant basis for the accusations leveled at him and Epic in general if they're suddenly lavishing praise on the not-made-by-Nintendo platform

EDIT: lol, i was the one who reported that, when they dismissed the 3DS before they even got a dev kit http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=117392&page=1
