Forums - Nintendo - Report – 3DS pre-orders “outpacing Wii’s total number of advance orders,” says UK retail

I guess one country, even as big as UK is for Europe, is not a good indicator. But 3DS will have a massive launch, and what is more important, is that with many releases every month, it'll continue selling well for the whole year. Sure, in Dicember it could loose to Sony, but with its line up it'll be difficult to loose much.

I would like to know the numbers Nintendo estimates for FY 2011, 20 m doesn't seem too much to me.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Heh, as I would expect from the successor to the greatest and best selling handheld ever!

Well not to suprising after DS and Wii's massive success consumers are going to go with 3DS by default. If Nintendo plays its cards right they could have another DS on their hands. I'm sort of suprised that it is pre-ordering so well in Europe despite all the europeans I talk to complaining about pricing.

Is the price set yet by most retailers in Europe and if so is it around 250$ like America or 300$ like Japan? I didn't think Nintendo would see lackluster support due to price. Everyone and their dog will want to buy one!

There is currently a price wars in the UK making the price lower in some shops (like Amazon) than in Europe. It has gone down around 200 quids making it 235 euros (320 bucks). For example the other Amazon shops in Europe, the prices are currently set at 250 euros for Germany and 240 euros in France.

Its a great indicator for two reasons. One, its the most expensive price out of ALL regions right now (or was before the price drops at Aldi, etc), and Two, its not being promoted by only Nintendo games such as Mario (yes i know theres Mario in some promotional material, but considering its mostly third parties, its big news). I think its pretty evident that Nintendo have a technology thats interesting to both audiences.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

As someone above you said, actually UK is the country with the lower price in Europe because of the price war. I Italy you just can't buy one for less than 250€ right now.

Surely everywhere the preorders are going well, especially in Americas since there's an official price. But UK is probably the country of Europe with higher preorder rates, we should wait some weeks before claiming a bigger launch than Wii's.

well I remember Wiis going on Amazon UK for £800 ($1269), shortly following launch.  If history repeats itself, I will be very happy I pre-ordered 2.

"UK Booming!" That sounds more like an industrial than the topic at hand...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

I really feal sory for italy they have to pay the most for the 3ds

but ps3 might even be cleared out in spain since the sony shelve space has been shrinking for years there going to ds and wii so i think the last space will go to 3ds

I can see it now a bunch of grown men fighting for positions to get the latest hardware. Always a good time and a good laugh.

Screw consoles, Handheld is the future! All 3 console corporations gotta pour more funds into it!
