The NGP will most likely launch the end of this year and if so Sony would have 4 platforms on the market at once. Obviously the PS3 is still the flagship home console and won't go anywhere. And the PSP will likely stick around a few more years (it still has a nice software lineup yet to be released).

So that leaves the PS2 which is in its 11th year. There really is no reason for Sony to pull it because it still makes them money and is key for penetration in emerging markets but there is just something about having 4 platforms that seem unwieldy.

So do you think Sony will discontinue PS2 at least in America, Japan or Europe anytime soon?

as long as it keeps on making money then probably not.

If PS2 is really gonna be discontinued, I'm gonna buy 1 again (at least one), and I'm sure alot of people will do the same so sales will rise again (lol), because it's really cheap and so you're sure that if your first PS2 dies, you have another one for a couple of years more.

The YOY drop in PS2 sales was pretty big, so there's probably not a lot of life left.

I give it untill the end of 2012 till they discontinue , its not long released in some countrys thats why san andreas for the ps2 is still in the top selling 200 games WW weekley, at the moment its pure profit 

I do think so. The console is almost dead already and it had a fantastic run. Expect it to be no more somewhere between summer and the holiday of this year.
