Forums - Nintendo - Reports of sickness playing 3DS has some truth to it!

"Apparently it happens because not all of us are able to process 3D images. Since one image is sent to each eye..."

Damn my lazy eye. I was looking forward to playing SSFIV in 3D

the 3DS will make a lot of people SICK, and that's a FACT!

especially on launch day, many people will call in sick to go out and get a 3DS!

there is no denying my logic!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

70,000 people at E3 2010.  How many reports did we get about the 3DS making anyone dizzy or sick?   At 50%, that should have been 35,000 reports.  At even 6%, we still should have received 4,200 reports.   But they were quite rare and certainly didn't amount to those figures.

Of that 70,000 how many got hands on with the 3DS? I know only a few thousand were present at Nintendo's conference. Also many of the 70,000 were retailers who probubly wouldn't have reported these problems online or too websites. Then of the remaining few thousand many probubly avoided standing in line for hours and just went to other booths.

I went to PAX and the biggest game of the show was Duke Nukem, everyone wanted to see it. Their were 80,000 people a day. However how many actually went to play Duke Nukem? I waited almost six hours to play and I'm sure the 3DS line at E3 was longer.

So I'd bet only about 10,000 or so people at E3 got hands on with 3DS (Just a guess) that would mean like 600 complaints. Now I've heard people on this forum and others who have said they played 3DS and they had some symptoms.

Also as I said these stats weren't specifically about 3DS, it was about 3D in general. I know several people who can't watch 3D in theaters because they get sick (My mom being one of them). It does not shock me that six percent have negative reactions.

well just as I commented in that other thread... there's a reason why you can adjust the 3D... it's prefered to start on a low setting.

For example on the 3D vision (PC 3D) the default setting is 15%... not 100%

So it's only 6% or less, I kinda like those odds myself and besides Nintendo added the 3D affect slider.

Of course this will be happening.  Heck some people feel bad playing FPS depending on FOV, etc.  With 3D in all forms, cinema, TV, etc. there will always be people who find the experience induces this kind of reaction.  The 3DS will be no different.

Unlike some other 3D forms 3DS could be even more prone to causing this if it's used while in motion for example, the combination of 3D focus with actual background motion - say playing in the back seat of a car - could easily compound the effect for some people.

Not sure what percentage of people you'll be talking about - but there will 100% be some.  That's why there's a slider to adjust the 3D effect or remove it entirely.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Yesterday as I got home drunk I played AC2 in cross-eyed 3D and didn't get sick, so I guess I'm safe.

Anyway, 6% is not that much and as people said it's likely some of those would actually get over it or be confortable at lower levels. So for the few remaining you can always disable 3D, just taking a feature away but keeping many/most games still perfectly playble.

People also used to get sick with 2D-3D. Oh, and as long as 3D is a nice enough feature that it would make enough people decide "hey, let's give this console a try" to get an extra 6,4% sells, that'd be able to counter those 6% which would be the far-wrost case scenario, so I don't think 3D would take 3DS sales down even if all those 6% decided to not buy.

There is a switch to turn off the 3D. I've solved your problem.

Above: still the best game of the year.

Oh shit there is no solution to this Nintendo is Doomed!! Oh wait what does dis button do?! Oohhhhhh click! Oh I feel better now!

You have a slider, slide the damn thing and problemas solved!

Seems like people complain even when there is a solution. If they don’t get that they complain and if they don’t get the other thing they complain! Ok so take both then? Nooo they still complain!!
