Oh god, I enjoyed the first one a fair bit but couldn't even sit all the way through the sequels.

As a trilogy, they're not any better than the Star Wars prequels.

Hey the Starwars prequels were amazing films for their day. They were far better then the Matrix trilogy. Honestly I will probubly watch 4 and 5. I have been meaning to pick up the first three on BluRay for a while. But like others said the first one was amazing the other two not so much.

No, they were pretty bad movies in their day you were just too young to realize how bad they were ...
Starting with the special edition of Star Wars, everything George Lucas has worked on recently has been getting worse and worse; and it really makes me wonder whether George Lucas was just in the right place at the right time while knowing the right people to become so successful, or whether he had some sort of physical or emotional problem in the mid-1990s that impacted his ability to make a decent movie.

He had way too many good movies in a row for it to be "right place at right time".
From THX-1138 to American Graffiti to Star Wars to Indiana Jones, the guy was golden. Something went wrong in the 90s that apparently drove him to insanity.

I don't fully disagree, but many/most of his movies before the 1990s he was working with good directors, good writers and good actors while with the Special Edition and Prequels of Starwars he seemed to be doing more of the work himself. Much of what people remember as being character defining moments, or quintessential elements, of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies came from actors adlibbing, or from writers Lucas was rumoured to be struggling with; and potentially, from directors who could make something mediocre seem better. About the only thing I can really identify as being significantly different from George Lucas in 1995 compared to 1980 was that George Lucas was considered a Legendary Visionary in 1995; while he was just a good movie producer in 1980.
In general, what George Lucas created wasn’t terrible and could have been fixed had it been dealt with when the screenplays were being written; or adjusted mid production. In fact, I have discussed what I would have done with Episode 1 with many people and most think it would have made a much better movie; and most of my changes are streamlining, restructuring the story and modifying some of the characters.
