Forums - Gaming - what ever happened to point and click games?

zack and wiki was a really good point and click game, wish it would have sold more so we could get a sequel

just like all games people need to buy them so we can get more (and sequels)

I started making videos for youtube; check them out.

...but, but, there's no shooting in those games! No one dies, and there's no action! It's boring!

Sorry, the average gamer couldn't care less about a game where there doesn't happen something all the time. A shame, really.

you can die in Kings Quest 6 lol.. its a shame that today the average game only cares about action

Don't know. What happened to shooters where you have to think? What happened to RPG's with depth? Things aren't what they used to be, we just have to deal with it. It is a shame though, some of the most memorable games I ever played were point & click style adventure games.

My favorites was the old Sierra games (Quest for Glory). Was point and click, but you fought and leveled up your character and saved that character for the next game with your stats.

i dont see many released on the pc or a home console anymore (mainly pc)

like

Sam and Max, Kings Quest, Space Quest, Maniac Mansion, Maniac Mansion 2: Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Monkey Island

i decided to go back and play these games on my pc and it has me thinking they dont make much point and click games anymore, it was my favourite genre.. i like the idea of interacting with the character.. if you seen any point and click games for today. can you point me in the right direction?

You mean the adventure genre?  My take is that the adventure genre started out with text adventures, and then along came graphic adventures.  Once that happened, they merged with the action game genre and became the action-adventure genre.  Since then, most action games will have some puzzle elements and this is a nod to adventure games.  In short, the genre merged with action titles to become what we think of as major videogame titles today.

While not technically point and click, Heavy Rain is very similar to them.

I agree with everyone telling you that Zack and Wiki is a great game.

I loved it.  Actually having to think is rare in games today.
