So the 3DS at $250 is stupid because Nintendo should charge more? But a $250 PSP is too expensive?
How is the 3DS supposed to "outsell the PSP2 like Kinect outsold Move" at that price point?

He seems to think people don't care about price.

@lordtheknight The Wii was getting some original games and it was getting pisspoor responses. RE chronicles, people were crying that they didnt get RE5, Tvs.C??? they were complaining they didnt get SF4, Dead Space??? people were hating that game on principle. IMHO I dont think people really care about original titles, they want to play with the cool HD games but they dont want to pay the HD prices. And did you really spend money on a new console just to play games you already played on another console??
as for the devs I would agree with you if there wasnt 2 elephants in the room called XBL and PSN, alot of smaller devs are putting games on those services

How is he being a fool? Perhaps what he is saying is that Nintendo needs to set a higher price and then continue to add value and iterate on their platform over time, say with better 3D cameras, better screens etc to improve the 3DS' appeal to the wider audiences than to set a middling price which doesn't afford them the same margins to do just that. Pachter is a big Apple fanboy so hes probably thinking 'what would Apple do?' in this instance.
Tease.

Just being original isn't good enough. If Extraction had played like the first Dead Space, there wouldn't have been much of a problem. People weren't stating that they didn't want TvC, just they also wanted SFIV. Darkside Chronicles was because it looked like the consolation prize.

| RolStoppable said: $300 would be a huge gamble. While it's true that Nintendo could initially sell the handheld at that price and it would still sell out, it's highly probable that sales would stall pretty soon after the launch period, forcing Nintendo to drop the price within the first year of availability. Quick price drops devalue products, because consumers expect further price cuts in the not to distant future. More people holding out obviously results in lower sales. But most importantly, what Pachter is forgetting about is that every $50 less spent on the hardware itself can potentially go to software and that's where the real money is. |
This. And also, 3DS sale is a deal like any other, a balance must be found between seller's need to profit and buyer's purchase power and willingness to spend. And this balance must also take into account the price of competing products, of previous products now become cheap and the new features and benefits the new one offers compared to them and what overprice they can justify for the buyer, and maybe many other things. I think He's right about some things (but not about a Wii1.5 with HD), but when talking about prices and fees, Pachter only takes into account shareholders' interest and nothing else. Were He a stallholder at a market, I'd buy from His competitors.
This said, everybody hail Pachter already, anyway, even an analyst god can be wrong every now and then, no need to go into a sulk with Him for this, let's instead enjoy another dose of superpowers He's transmitting to us by just participating in a thread about Him!

That's still being a fool, since he's applying fanboyism to business advice.

@lordtheknight so it sounds like some Wii owners want the HD games and not really original ones. A game that plays just like the HD Dead Space??? Sounds like you just want Dead Space. Tvs.C judging by those dismal sales, id say Wii owners didnt want it. RE chronicles, if they feel those games are consolation prizes, then thats there problem.

1. Um, some of us did want Dead Space. But a spinoff that still played like it would have worked, instead of turning it into a genre that the series wasn't selling itself as before.
2. TvC did not have dismal sales. This says it's the top selling of the "Vs Capcom" games.
3. You don't tell customers it's "their problem" when they are the people that buy the products. It's actually Capcom's problem for thinking Wii owners would settle for only those games when they ALSO bought a million copies of RE4, and showed they would buy more games like that. It's their problem for seeing those sales and not going for more of it.

I have a friend that bought Kinect for himself strictly from the profits of selling Kinects on eBay.
So ... thanks for the heads up, Pachter, teeheeheeheeheeheeheehee!
