Short Cords, Long Friend Lists And Other Burning 3DS Questions Answered

We're on the verge of the release of Nintendo's first major new gaming system in a half-decade, the 3D capable 3DS. It's the seasons, then, for both excitement and lots of little nagging questions. From Nintendo, we've got (some) answers.

...

How's the battery power?
The system will take about 3 1/2 hours to charge and then last about three to five hours on a full charge. That's with the 3D effects activated. The company guesses that people who keep the 3D turned off could get as many as eight hours. Turning off the system's wireless via a switch, lowering its brightness settings or even running it in a dimmer power-save mode will all help the machine last longer. The system charges off of a power cord or while sitting in a plugged-in "cradle."

No. I don't see why would anyone want to buy hardware at launch -  from the games we've already seen, there are no real MUST HAVEZZZZ there.

true, let's the game keep on coming, hope it will have more support than the ds

I guess it's like a good Smart Phone.  If I keep my million Apps running, turn the screen on its brightest setting, turn on the Wi-Fi, and stay on VGChartz (like I usually do), I can kill the battery in about an hour.  If I actually use it like a normal phone and not a portable entertainment center, it would last for days.

I doubt if Nintendo would forget the fundamentals of portable gaming success.

I knew it, having a very short battery life would go against a part of Nintendo's philosophy (well more like the late Gunpei Yokoi's philosophy) of having a reliable handheld. I know Im not going to run it full blast like a boom box.

Too short for my tastes, it should be 5-8 hours with a maximun of 11-12. I'll wait for the hardware revision to see if they can add more length to the battery life.
