Forums - Nintendo - Why is Nintendo treating Europe like that?

Seriously?

So the 3DS has not set price in Europe and the videogame sellers are free to charge what they want without having to follow the guideline of Nintendo.

250 euros would already be a sum, it's more than 330$. And Nintendo is ready to let pay us more to get a 3DS? Why are they doing that when they set a 250$ price for the USA?

Because they are from Japan.... Srr joke :p

Currency conversion, VAT, etc. makes it so you can't just say it should be "worth" the same in all countries. So the euro->dollar conversion doesn't work, but I agree that it was stupid of Nintendo not to give the MSRP.

HMV has priced the 3DS at £229.99 at the moment, for all we know, it's the launch price.

Because Nintendo of Europe isn't as unified as Nintendo of America. Where i am from  Nintendo-products are handeled by a 3rd party called Bergsala

To be honest Europe has several different currencies unless you are refering to only the European Union where the Euro is used. This means that Nintendo needs to price it differently depending on which country you are in. Chances are Nintendo did reveal a suggested retail price for each region but didn't want to go out and list all the different prices and regions seperatly. Chances are retailers won't gouge either because they know how much it costs them to buy them from Nintendo and they know their competitors will try to offer a low price to sell units.

Keep in mind a suggested retail price does not prevent price guaging. If a retailer wants to they could sell the unit above that set price or below as they so choose.

I think Europe will probubly get similiar pricing to NA or Japan maybe between. Either way it won't be to drastic of a difference I'm sure. Also don't complain to much you guys get the 3DS before us North Americans. You finally get something great before we do, be excited yay for you!

That doesn't stop everyone else from giving a suggested price when they launch new products. We also know that the Wii is 199 euros. The 3DS? ... Just by giving a price in euros, we could all go out and gauge what the price would be. If they had said it cost 249 euros, I could figure out that it would be between the 4GB and 250GB Xbox 360 for example, but instead Nintendo is saying "We have a surprise for you! So much of a surprise in fact that we won't tell, you'll have to try and figure it out yourselves!"

But it is true that it will of course be in range of what we have seen in Japan and the US, but it is none the less poor conduct to leave everyone hanging like that.

Two other prices were already posted in the worthless official thread (seriously, someone shouldn't claim an official thread, if he isn't around to update it). 220 pounds and something slightly below 200. Looks like the typical british price war among retailers.

I am quite confident that the 3DS will be €250 at most retailers across mainland Europe.

Yeah, the one below £200 mentioned an RRP of £199, so here's hoping it's actually true!

But we get it 2 days early, that is something to be happy about isn't it?

No, people wanted price. And if they revealed the price it was the lacking of Region-Lock info to complain about. Or the Battery. No matter what Nintendo does or why it does it, people won't be satisfied. THey said the didn't give information about line ups or price because it changes across countries, and Europe is many countries...but still, it's Nintendo's fault to not have unified Europe.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

And then we see Americans complaining about games being overpriced... >_<
