may be they are releasing a new model later this year to avoid piracy and allow 100€ price drop...

I don't know about that. The XBox 360 was the only console with hardware growth in 2010. I doubt the PS3 hardware sales will grow more in 2011, then it did in 2010. The Move helped to move some PS3 last year, but the thrill of that hardware is fading fast. Kinect is still in short supply due to shortages. We'll see what happens toward the end of the year. I still expect to see price cuts across the board.

I wonder how much growth each of the respective consoles had with their online sales. If physical sales of point cards is about the same as in console purchases then that would translate into a lot of game sales.

The PS3 isn't bleeding money anymore (hardware-wise) and they now make a profit on each unit sold. They seem to be bleeding money from PSN.

And maybe when more people purchase the PS3, there will be more people accessing PSN with online purchases.  In the black soon with PSN?  Let's see.

I'm not sure how they're bleeding money from PSN tbh. Valve seem to be making lots of money when they "only" have a userbase of around 30 million. They must be able to lower costs somewhere.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too.  It's completely unrelated to NPD Dec. numbers as the game is not out yet.

  All the reviews are not even out yet. I just looked at the metacritic page for LBP2:

and the score is 92. Sure it might go back up again, but Sony sure jumped the gun on it.

Sony? IIRC, the article writer is tied by contract with Sony.

You can sell a console at higher than manufacturing cost but lose money. You know, you have to pay a lot more things than only the cost of the hardware... There is a big difference between gross profit and operating profit.
