Forums - Sales - Gran Turismo 5 Sells 560.5K in December's NPD

Cut/paste.....  Whatever.  I think that if you ask 10 different gamers to read all the reviews on a game and then ask them to play the game, you would get a list similar to the reviewers every time.  When people read reviews before they play a game, it plants that seed to look for that problem when they play it.  So, many people complain about the same problems.  I haven't played GT5 to have an opinion about it one way or another, but i am sure that when you wait 2-4 extra years waiting for a game to come out, it can only disappoint somehow.  I assume when Duke Nukem comes out later this year, there will be a lot of the same type of complaints.

So how did it do in comparisson to vgcharts? over or under?

Depends on how much it sold in bundles and how well it did in Canada and Latin America. If it performed as well as or better than God of War 3 in those regions than we're probably spot on or possibly marginally undertracking it.

I hate to ask this stupid question.... but how much did GOW3 sold in LA and Canada??

Not overall figures but in Brazil it sold 40k in first month and Sony expect 160k lifetime.

Line for launch day in one store here (São Paulo)... over 300 people... that absolute amazing for my country.

GT5 had equal or better hype here for launch.

So this was for God of war 3, not GT5? And GT5 is even bigger obviously.

I would not call a game with over 5 million in sales a failure. If you split the total between November and December, Gran Turismo 5 averaged over 2.5 million sales in it's first two months of release. Granted, the bulk of that 5 million came in November.

The numbers in my source appear to be outdated and not reflecting any GT5 sales for December.

Where all this hate is coming from (I am part to it) is an equal reaction to the pre-release hype of Gran Turismo 5. The hate is justified when you take into account: 1. The history of the Gran Turismo series, 2. Over $60 million in development costs, and 3. In development for 6 to 7 years. From this perspective, Gran Turismo 5 has underperformed. However, it has not been heavily bundled yet, so it is a bit premature to say the least.

The trolling is bad everywhere, not just here. The 2010 December NPD thread on NeoGAF has many posters cruelly one lining it with "GT5 lol!" and similar:

Honestly, I think GT 5 is off to a good start. Once it gets heavily bundled for every PS3 sold in the Americas, Japan, and the EMEAA we will see it reach the 9 to 10 million mark. This being said, the time for it to sale bundled is not quite as long as GT3 because a lot of people expect Nintendo to end this generation come 2012.

Meaning Gran Turismo 5 will have the shortest legs of any Gran Turismo that has been bundled. Sure the numbers after the Wii 2 drops still matter, but not quite as much if this generation lasted until 2014 or later.

Well, I haven't met them. Most gamers I speak to know the NPD is US Sales only. It says it in pretty much every report that's posted. I think the problem is there's no ligitimate European or Asia organizations that tracks ALL the countries in those regions. If there's is VGChartz should be posting it each month. Even NPD isn't accurate. Their numbers are lower then the actual sales because they don't track every retailer. You can probably tack on another 1-3% in sales to the figures they provide.

Trust me, they exist. But they're just the ignorant trash that's usually found on youtube.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

For GoW3... no PR released for GT5 yet.
