Forums - Gaming - Will Microsoft/Sony announce Wii-like controllers in 08'?

I don't think so. They might try something next gen (Sony more likely than MS if you ask me), but releasing something to a system that's already out would be a baaaad idea. No game already out would support it, most games in development wouldn't support it, and nobody would want to buy it. Stuff like this only really gets of the ground if it's the main controller that comes with the console from day one.

all game consoles are unique in their own ways. but, if microsoft actually does copy off of nintendo , i would sell my 360 because microsoft should be original. (i mean look at nintendo! if the wii didn't have motion controls, it would be selling gamecube levels of hardware and software!) also, attach rate doesn't matter for ps3 or wii. the ps3 has a small userbase, the wii is finally getting the heavy hitting titles that it could've had before but didn't. plus, they're both in they're first years. (remember that first year game sales for a console are pitiful!)

Damn things have changed since 2009 began. Here are my new visions for the end of the generation.

Wii: 135 mil

Ps3: 85 mil

360: 60 mil

True Genius

Classic gaming has been unchanged for the past years. The eyetoy had eye toy games, but gaming was made up of thumb-pads. If anything has been learned from the Wii, its that moving on to more full body movements as input is acceptable in gaming.

While I prefer the DS3 as well, there is the potential for the companies to make alot of money introducing new controllers and marketing them well. Theres no precedence for this type of thing, but you would have to assume they would atleast consider hoping on it. You would take away atleast parts of the growing Wii fanbase by offering a simliar experience along with all the classic ways people enjoy gaming.

MS is in a good place with the 360. I don't think they would do something like that this gen. Sony has the six-axis which is like the wii mote, except that u really dont need it for much. I mean it works good in games like warhawk and to some extent lair, but for most games on the ps3 u really dont need it. In fact there are some games on the wii that would actually work better with a regular controller than the wii mote.

No, for the reasons other people mentioned.

Sony, though, might develop some new uses for the Eye that will eventually take us to a similar place as the wiimote. We've already seen some demo videos that show this potential.

Next generation I imagine both Sony and Microsoft will go in the motion sensing direction, or they will if they're smart. As for this:

I dont want it to happen, the wiimote is not as good as the dual shock 3.

There's no reason a remote + nunchuk-style controller setup couldn't be just as good as a classic controller. The limitations on the wiimote come from Nintendo's deliberately making it simple and friendly to the casual crowd. If Sony or Microsoft made a remote controller, they'd probably give it an analog stick and a more complex button layout. Basically, it could be exactly like the right side of the DualShock with a pointer built in.

Next generation will be the death of the classic controller as a standard (it will become the add on).

However this gen - nah neither Sony or MS would make a peripheral like that, it would be a huge loss of face.

No, MS would be more likely to release some sort of light gun and I don't think Sony is dumb enough to release another controller type now that they've decided to bring dual shock back.

I agree....the Wiimote is far superior.
