Sony, though, might develop some new uses for the Eye that will eventually take us to a similar place as the wiimote. We've already seen some demo videos that show this potential.
Next generation I imagine both Sony and Microsoft will go in the motion sensing direction, or they will if they're smart. As for this:
There's no reason a remote + nunchuk-style controller setup couldn't be just as good as a classic controller. The limitations on the wiimote come from Nintendo's deliberately making it simple and friendly to the casual crowd. If Sony or Microsoft made a remote controller, they'd probably give it an analog stick and a more complex button layout. Basically, it could be exactly like the right side of the DualShock with a pointer built in.
