Forums - Nintendo - Ghosts 'n Goblins (NES) removed from Virtual Console

Update from Capcom:

"It was not our decision to remove the game from the Virtual Console. Nintendo has a policy stating that if a game doesn't sell enough units they can remove it from their online service. This is the case with the NES version of the game. If you wish to see this game on the Virtual Console again I suggest you contact Nintendo and request come back.

First of all, at least now there is an indicator of who did it.

Second of all, I would be pissed, but it's not as though Nintendo is the only online service to do this.

Ugh.  This is the reason I don't particularly like non-physical formats.  I know people got their money back, but it is crazy that it can be taken away like that.

It won't actually be deleted if you bought it already, you just can't re-download it if you decide to delete it.

The sentence in the first post about people getting their money back threw me off.

So those people get to keep the game and get their money back?

Yup, although they can never download it again.  And of course no one else can buy it now either.

Strange, but I have not experienced this.  I had already bought the NES version a while back and just purchased the arcade release yesterday (masochistic, I know), but my VC still shows the NES version as listed and is still readily downloadable, and I haven't gotten any Wii points back.

I find it weird people are blaming Capcom for taking it down. My bet is Nintendo themselves had it taken down to boost sales of the arcade version. If they are refunding everyones money then their must not be a huge consumer base. I don't particularily mind as I myself never purchased it on VC.

But I am concerned by the fact that Nintendo is actually pulling titles, as someone else said whether they refund you or not you can never redownload it. Oh well, but that is why I prefer the physical copy in my hands. In the end this won't hurt VC sales much and it doesn't effect my purchasing and purchases so doesn't really matter much to me.

How can you find it weird when all you have is "I bet"? Try some evidence before you think we are weird for thinking another thing with the same lack of proof either way.

Man way to rag on me. Obviously its fact that if a title was taken off of VC and/or the money was refunded Nintendo would have to at least be involved. Chances of a third party taking content down without Nintendo's involvement or direction would be next to impossible.

I had a hunch because third parties like Capcom aren't going to want to take a title down when theirs a chance it will make them money. Turns out my hunch was correct and it was based on fact. I know Nintendo has policies about what software they host and if you read the contract you signed with Nintendo they and they alone have the right to remove content.

You ragged on others first. That was what I was calling on. If you had been reasonable, and presented the basis for your assumption in the first post you made, I wouldn't have had a problem.

Sounds plausible. I don't find it hard to believe that Nintendo takes down a few MB to cut down costs of servers.

A few MB? The ROM is probably like 128K.

I can't imagine it was the worst selling game on VC though. My guess is Nintendo thought it was pointless to have the Arcade and NES games on VC.

A few MB, yes. While NES games were at best half an MB big, the downloads from the Virtual Console servers are much bigger than that for whatever reason. They are usually around 3 MB.

Wow. I have no idea way. Perhaps there is some encryption involved.

Regardless, I'm glad I have a 2GB SD card, and haven't downloaded that many games anyway.
