Forums - Microsoft - Kinect gets more interesting, plays call of duty.what next?

This is exactly the stuff I've been looking forward to. There is no reason they cannot implement peripherals to enhance kinects playability.  It is awesome seeing a FPS run so smoothly and entertainingly with Kinect... me like :)

I believe the next iteration of kinect, if it is made, won't require a "dummy" controller. I am still hoping it will be accurate enough that we'll only need one very small controller with maybe an analogue stick and 4 buttons.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Very cool post, I think its pretty cool what people can do when they hack these things.  I am fairly certain MS will end up adding some sort of addon to the kinect that will allow these type of games to come to the 360 this gen.

Also nice to see the same ones that come into every Kinect thread trying to bash it.  Keep up the good work, seems like the more they bash it the better the sales.  Cheers....

The point is,  if Microsoft will need to sell further peripherals in order to show that Kinect can do certain things,  what restricts Sony from releasing a more powerful camera to do exactly what Kinect did coupled with their existing motion controls?  And how does that differ in any way?

Quite honestly,  for Kinect to be 'proven' right or it's detractors to be proven wrong it will have to play games like Call of Duty with no controller or peripherals.

If you need a controller, how again does Kinect differ from the competition or remotely stick to it's controller free gaming shtick?   Basically,  what this says is that Kinect alone is half of the solution and coupled with motion controllers is the other half of the solution (The solution Sony came up with).    Which would lead belief that Sony was correct in it's initial assessment that you can't go the 'Camera-only' route if you want games with depth.

what core games has kinect advertised?1000th post and should have been a better post, what a way to waste a milestone moment lol.i just said the possibilities of what could be done are becoming clearer.

Microsoft has yet to advertise "core" games for Kinect.  But we have seen "core" games like Madworld and No More Heroes for the Wii and Resident Evil 5 for the PS3 Move along with the upcoming Killzone 3 and Dead Space 2.  Hey, with Kinect and a controller, why not have a Resident Evil Kinect version out sometime as well as a Kinect and controller enabled Dead Space 2?  It's very clear what a "camera" and "controller" combo can do.  We've... seen it already.  Just saying.

Wait so killzone 3 and dead space 2 have body tracking for the move? sounds cool

Yes, the PSEye is capable of body tracking, and how much it would be used I do not know.  But I'm sorry to inform you that both Killzone 3 and Dead Space 2 for the PS3 will not utilize body tracking at this moment.

No the PS Eye is capable of taking low res still shots, which is how it can track back and forth movement. It has no depth sensor and it has an extremely low RGB camera, very limited movement is actually possible since it follows the infrared sensors in the controllers. So this would never be possible on the Move unless they put out upgraded camera, sorry to burst your bubble.

"Yes, the PSEye is capable of body tracking, and how much it would be used I do not know" still applies as I just said.

PS Move and WiiMote Plus are the best wands, Kinect is the best hands-free camera, but none of them can do everything, all three of the competitors will need to complete their motion control setup on next gen consoles, because 3rd parties will pretend some uniformity to be able to make multiplats without having to do major rewritings of single versions control scheme or even gameplay, so MS will need a wand to add to Kinect, Sony will have to add depth and IR detection to PS Eye and Ninty will have to make its own camera with Kinect features, as Balance Board is perfect for some things but it lacks some Kinect capabilities.

MS won't have problems, by next gen wands and their programming and use in games will be totally mainstream, OTOH also Sony and Ninty will be able to catch-up on cameras quite easily, as Sony already did more than half of the necessary work on it, and anyway, as MS chose to save money putting more of Kinect computing effort on console's processor and using a camera sensor with lower res than early PrimeSense prototypes, Kinect is currently limited in res, lag and number of simultaneous players, only from next gen Kinect's full potential will be able to be exploited, so even Nintendo will have a smaller gap to fill. Obviously Ninty will save a lot of money as usual, as MS kindly supported the most expensive early efforts to launch the tech in the mainstream. Quite obviously, though, MS will keep for some time a lead in 1st party hands-free games and Ninty on wand oriented ones, while Sony will enjoy a decent trade-off and a lead in the hardcore precision wand niche.

As an example of what could be done then OK but for me this was always going to come. What I really liked was the Kinect being used to drive RUSE that looked more like it.

for core games they could deffo release a move style controller for fps

you are at a loss to why i started a thread to show kinect working with another hack and the ability to use headtracking, bodytracking and use in a fps? well that is your loss.why did you come into the thread?

The point is,  what is Kinect doing here that the other two motion control solutions can't?   Kinect isn't doing anything that the PS Move can't.   That's the whole point.   For Kinect to earn the 'It just does everything!' title.  It has to actually work within the constrains of the hardware.

Anyone with a brain knows Kinect could copy the PS Move with a controller based setup and achieve this (And ultimately will probably resort to that).

What people question (And still will question after this video) is can core titles be played the way Kinect has advertised them.  (Controller-less and intuitively).   My answer is still no until we see it working properly.

My personal opinion is no way. its taken what 30 years of gaming evolution to achieve the experience we now with our controllers. while they have evolved further, like wireless, sixaxis, virbration etc, the interface has always been the same. and that simply because of our hands. if we look even at the Wii games, you still need a controller to play games like COD, imho theres no way you can play core games without a controller, even playing with a Move controller or a Wii remote will likely be less enjoyable.

TBH that simply confirmed my current view that the Wii and Move are better setups for FPS using some form of motion control than Kinect (as it stands currently with no controller of its own).

Now, if MS could mix the guesture elements with using a gamepad (or another hacker) then it would be interesting.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
