Forums - Microsoft - MS: "No intention of abandoning core"

Eurogamer

Microsoft has reiterated that it has no plans to ditch the core audience that helped propel Xbox 360 to 50 million worldwide sales, despite the amazing success of Kinect, which sold eight million units during its first 60 days and still doesn't work in my house.

"Obviously we're very excited by the success of Kinect," US PR bod David Dennis told IGN at CES this week. "But we have no intention of abandoning the Xbox 360 audience that bought in originally. We're very aware of the key role the enthusiastic core audience played in making the Xbox 360 what it is, and we'll continue to support and develop [games] like Halo and Gears of War."

Unsurprisingly, Dennis also said that there are some core-focused games in development yet to be announced.

On a related note, we're also told to expect more improvements to Xbox Live in future. Apparently Microsoft has mainly invested in behind-the-scenes upgrades this past year to help accommodate the releases of Halo: Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops, but it remains keen to add features Live users want.

One such feature is the option to have more than 100 friends on your friends list. As Dennis noted, it "only affects a certain percentage of users, but clearly it's very important to them".

we everybody didn't know that

no company can survive without their core base

I watched Microsoft's E3 press conference and even I felt backstabbed and I don't even like 360. Though, it's kinda nice that MS isn't gonna abandon their audience.

That's good news for sure. However I believe they need to start showing it rather than talking about it.

Well that's good to know, but it's really a no-brainer. They won't just give up the very market that put the 360 where it is, the very market responsible for many midnight launches, the rise of the shooter genre on console, and the bread and butter of Xbox LIVE. Even with their dip into the casual, family friendly market, the 360, at it's heart, is a core machine.

Since they've proven they can support both the family market & core market simulatneously, the system is in a fantastic position right now.

This.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

That's awesomer news.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

It won't stop the threads from coming until those titles are announced..that's when we X360 owners can rub it in.

Actually, nah, I'll be too busy enjoying all the quality titles on all systems in 2011.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

If they announce Halo: CE & Halo 2 remake or at least either one of those. I'll jizz my pants. That is if they manage to pull it off right. Halo CE with Reach graphics. Awesomesauce.

What you and snesboy said, but I know for sure that it looks like microsoft abandoned the eastern demographic core (the demographic that I strongly fall under), since it doesn't look like any JRPG is coming to them, and Ace Combat is now becoming westernized.
