Forums - Nintendo - gamrReview - Reviews Disney Epic Mickey

The word ‘epic’ sure has seen resurgence as of late. In fact, the past two months have seen not one but two titles branding themselves as ‘epic’ - Kirby’s Epic Yarn and now Disney Epic Mickey. So what does Mickey have that would make him so epic? Well, he’s a classic (I’m talking Great Depression-era classic) character, is one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world and has left a great legacy that only Mario can rival. That sounds pretty epic to me. However, the question remains, does Disney Epic Mickey do justice to this mighty mouse and his impressive resume or should this ‘epic’ be banished to the Wasteland?

I find the camera is annoying, but not anywhere near a breaker.

I also find it funny that despite how many are putting it down over the camera, the game will outsell a lot of games that are supposed to be better (I mean have better metacritic scores).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

It's also going to be outsold by a lot of games that have lower metacritic scores, though.

Say Epic Mickey makes 2,5 million. That puts it at 29th place in terms of sales on the Wii. Big Brain Academy, Mario & Sonic Winter, Mario & Sonic Summer, Carnival Games, Wii Party, Link's Crossbow Training, Just Dance, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Mario Party 8 and Wii Play all sold less.

10 of the titles that outsold it were worse by gamerankings, 18 were better.

Say Epic Mickey makes 3 million. That puts it at 27th place in terms of sales on the Wii. Big Brain Academy, Mario & Sonic Winter, Mario & Sonic Summer, Carnival Games, Wii Party, Link's Crossbow Training, Just Dance, Mario Party 8 and Wii Play all sold less.

9 of the titles that outsold it were worse by gamerankings, 17 were better.

That's actually my point. The reviews don't matter. Heck, I didn't just mean Wii games here. A lot of PS3, 360, PSP, and DS games with higher scores are going to be outsold by Epic Mickey, while games on all systems with lower scores sell better.

I've had more fun playing Mickey Mania than this (wished the 2D sections where more like it), but still it's nice to see old characters, memorable rides, and music... etc. Only wished it was more colourful and less dark, and that it would give me less headaches while playing.
