Famitsu has passed along Enterbrain's yearly sales report for 2010. The data covers December 28, 2009 through December 26, 2010.

The market shrunk by 9% from the prior year, totaling 493.66 billion yen in sales, down from last year's 542.64 billion. Hardware saw the biggest fall, dropping 18.9% to 175.59 billion yen. Software fell 2.5% to 318.08 billion yen.

DS was the top platform for the year, beating the PSP by 70,000 units. In consoles, Wii edged out PS3.

Here's the full set of hardware totals. Life to date (through December 26, 2010) sales are in parentheses. Different from the weekly sales charts, this list combines DS Lite, DSi, and DSi LL under a single DS platform and PSP and PSP go under a single PSP platform.

Wii and PS3 aren't really that close, DS and PSP definitely were. Poor Xbox.

What were the totals for each console last year?

DS and PSP was an epic fight, as was Wii vs PS3. Nintendo just pulled out the big guns towards the end of the year for Wii though, and it really did help out.

Next year could be the closest year ever for home consoles... As for handhelds. New hardware is incoming. Will be a great year!

DS is down by about 1 Million for the year.

PSP is up by about 600k.

I hope the 3DS and/or the PSP2 can breathe new life into gaming over there.

If Last Story becomes the next Final Fantasy! Plus the new Dragon Quest, and whatever else Nintendo has plan. The Wii can take it again in 11. What else has Sony got on the PS3 to help them in Japan? GTA5 the last hope failed! Overall sales will be down in 11, but I still see the Wii winning!

after NSMBWii's performance,nobody would have

in 2009,Wii was still selling great and was topping console charts and sold even better after NSMBWii came

and everybody thought it would do the same,but this year it was PS3 which outsold most of the year leaving the holidays

for 2011 i surely think Wii will come 2nd
