Forums - Nintendo - So was Epic Mickey successful?

Saleswise, yes. Over a million sold in about a month is nothing to sneeze at, especially considering the classical legs of Wii games. Critically, it's a mixed bag. The story and presentation was well received, but the actual gameplay was slammed.

well it was christmas and disney has a big name name plus everybody has a wii so they could have gotten their children this

Actually if you would look at buyer reviews for this game on Amazon you will see that lots of people with children do not recommend Epic Mickey, either because of its content or becasue of what they perceive as its being too difficult. So while only Amazon, and while it did very well there (it was constanly in the top 10, usually top 5), probably quite a lot of parents decided not to get this game for their children after reading the reviews.

OT - the game did very well, but public perception will be based on NPD numbers, I hope they pan out.

WOW disney goes bad.........lol

Yup, success I'd say

I reckon 3.5 mil LT at the end, with around 300k in Japan!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Did Disney or Warren ever say how many units sold they were expecting for the game?

I assume 1.2 Million units in 5 Weeks is classed as a success, for any new game on any platform, lifetime sales expectations could be different though.

Right. This game was really an unknown quantity going in. Depending on how well it caught on, it could've done anything from Red Steel 2 numbers to Mario and Sonic Olympics numbers, or at least that's what i thought in the weeks leading up to it, and we don't know which of those Disney was going for

I think it is at least safe to say that the game is profitable, even with Disney's reasonably strong advertising

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Speaking of Japan, I wonder who's publishing it there?  Disney could themselves, but there were rumors that Square Enix was interested and I have to imagine Nintendo could even want to handle it themselves...

I'd expect Square-Enix really, they're like Europe's Rising Star, in that they localise ANYTHING from the west. Not a bad thing mind, means more people get to play this awesome game!

Considering Kingdom Hearts...I see no better choice other than Squeenix.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

It surprsies me just how big Disney is in Japan, hence why I'm surprised it hasn't been released there yet...

Maybe let MHP3, Last story get the sales then take it out in a slow period for most sales? (see Conduit 2)
