Forums - Microsoft - Is Kinect silently being price-reduced?

When I was on Amazon this morning I saw that they sold the Kinect bundle for about 129 Euros, 20 Euros less than the official price. I was quite surprised since there are few reasons to reduce the price of a new product when it is record-selling even at its official price.

A couple of hours later I went to my local electronics store and saw them selling the same Kinect bundle for even less, just about 123 Euros. I was surprised even more.

Back at home I checked Amazon again, only to see that Amazon has meanwhile reduced the Kinect bundle price to even less, just 122 Euros.

So now I wonder: Has Kinect silently been price reduced? Or has Microsoft been overshipping Kinect bundles and the stores now simply try to empty their stock?

If the price gets below 100, even I will be buying one!

It is a reaction to the MediaMarkt-Advertisement.

No idea, it's probably just rife store competition, in UK, amazon.co.uk the sensor has only dropped £2.99 since it's release from 129.99 to 127. So it's probably just a question of store wars akin to the new hot game releases where stores attempt to attract more customers by decreasing their own profit per product.

You might be right about that. I just realized that Media Markt has some special sale right now and Kinect is one of the products it applies to. So the 122 Euro Amazon price is probably really a reaction to Media Markt.

On the other hand, Amazon's price was already reduced to 129 Euros before that, so I guess that can't be the only reason?

Wth! It's £98 on Amazon.jp, damn the weak Yen!

It's Amazon. I know the UK store frequently sells stuff for a lot lower than the RRP. I buy virtually everything off Amazon these days for that exact reason.

Actually it was always ~125€ on Amazon. Not much has changed.

Usually a bit more than 130€ in other online stores and ~145€ in local retailers like Media Markt. (well until now at least. The new Media Markt flyer is insane (for a retailer))

I think MS's initial Kinect pricing was/is similar to Nintendo's initial Wii (and now 3DS) pricing - we are pricing it so not because that is the actual fair price but because we can (we think it will still sell well even at that price). It just may be that stores are getting a very nice margin on Kinects, and now that the holidays are over, they are allowed to play more with its price (maybe MS didn't allow it beforehand) in order to attract customers (same as the sale of any hot item).

I seriously doubt that the Kinect has been overshipped, there seems to be ample demand for it.
