If you want a game bad enough buy the console it is on.

I don't particularly want a 3DS, but it has two exclusive Resident Evil games so I will be buying one.

Except the sales of the HD systems show people aren't following that dictim, at least not in the amount Wii hating developers want.

Yeah, they whine for a port to their console, hence my suggestion.  If they would devote whone time to work time instead they could probably make the money for every console this gen in a couple weeks.

I only made this thread because I thought it was an interesting topic (I'm not even sure I'd buy a Wii version - I'm not a fan so the quality would have to convince me), but I'll take your comment personally and reply.

Because I don't even own every game I want to play on Wii (or on Gamecube, or on PS2) I see no point in buying two new toys I won't have enough time to play with, and on top of that a new TV because I still didn't find a reason for owning a non-CRT one, but for an HD console I would naturally want one.

Buy every toy in the world if that makes you happy, but don't think it's the advice to give everyone who want to stick with their current toys but would like to play certain games on them.

(by the way, I might eventually get an HD console anyway... not because a game comes out for it but because of the library of games that already exists)

Also, the way to get people to buy a system is NOT to basically withhold games from the system you don't want people to buy, but to make a really good game for a system.

What if it's not about getting the games or the systems? Ever thought it might be just wanting the Wii to have the games, since we know it can sell them (TvC sold far better than many of the other niche Capcom fighting games, and the sales of the Street Fighter games on the VC)?

"What if it's not about getting the games or the systems? Ever thought it might be just wanting the Wii to have the games,"

Is only something a console loyalist should care about.  Anyone normal will just be content to play the games they want to and not be thinking "I don't even want this game but they should port this for no reason except because I want games on the Wii" which is what you just posted.

Capcom has no niche fighters this gen, TvC sure isn't, the vs series is mainstream popular.

I gotta call that. The VS series has not had a huge seller so far. Calling it mainstream requires something like 10 million sales, and the VC games have not even had a 1 million seller if I'm not mistaken.

Oh petitions, these always work!

Just get an HD console, there's a large library of great games you're missing out on.

I wanted some Mario so I got a Wii. No signing petitions necessary!

How DARE you suggest that someone buy another console if there is a game on it they like!

If this was England and I had a white glove I would slap you with it.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Meh petitions never work.

I been there before only to feel the pain. Look at the RE5 Wii petition had lots of signatures about 60,000 signatures.

The only other bigger petition that I know of is Family Guy that had about 140,000 signatures.

I don't know if that worked for family guy at all. But If it did you see what kind of ball park figure of signatures you will need.

I guess Final Fantasy isn't mainstream then.

Not to mention Halo only became mainstream with Halo 3 and hasn't been mainstream since. Also I guess Zelda doesn't fit the criteria either, or Resident Evil, or Guitar Hero, or Fallout, Gears of War, Just Dance, Donkey Kong Country, etc...

You get my point.

10M is in no way a barrier for determining mainstream.

By your criteria, what is the point in adding Zelda to a Wii version of Soul Caliber if Zelda isn't mainstream, seeing as it doesn't sell 10M?

Let us remember that Street Fighter is not mainstream either, even though they hold competitions that span the entire US.

Don't forget that Street Fighter has had movies as well, which brings me to another point...

Had Mortal Kombat never been mainstream? According to this site is has never surpassed 3M in sales. I am sure it has had at least 2 full length features films in theaters as well as another set to release this year.

I guess your argument just got torn to pieces.

Edit - My bad, MK2 has surpassed 4-5M when combining SNES/GEN sales, although that is still not mainstream.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Do online petitions ever work? I can remember any that have X_X

On the subject of "buy the console if you want the game". There's quite a few games that I would love to play that are on the PS3 & 360 but it's not enough to make me buy the console.

No, I just poorly phrased what I wrote (for one thing, I shouldn't have implied just one game getting that, although even total Capcom VS sales likely haven't approached 10 million, while Mortal Kombat most certainly has total sales above that).

And perhaps that's not the best criteria anyway.  A soccer mom likely has heard of Mortal Kombat, even if for the wrong reasons, while she is unlikely to know of the Capcom Versus games.

As for Final Fantasy, it has enough sales for the series to be maistream, although the height of the series recognition might be in Japan more than the US.

If Namco can put Soul Calibur IV on the PSP and dumb down the graphics, then they can do it on the Wii as well. They aren't too far off being standard definition.

Oddly enough, some parts worked better. I found Amy's dress was "off" on the lighter shades in the HD versions, with a lot of dark tones clearly underneath. In Broken Destiny, if you want her dress to be white, it's clearly white (although you can't change the color of the trimmings on that version).
