Forums - General - help!! i twisted wires!

So yeah my laptops battery charger stopped charging my computer so I noticed there was a slit in the cord so i opened the cord up and the twisted the wires togethor and it it worked again,can this mess my computer up? If so ill go buy a new charger ahhh my money.

This happened to a laptop AC adapter I had several years ago. Since I was in the field and couldn't order a replacement at the time, I spliced the frayed wires back together and then soldered them in place, making sure to keep the separate poles (pos and neg wires) insulated from each other with electrical tape.

You can use heat shrink tubing if the wires are completely severed after splicing and soldering them back together.

That's just a temp fix IMO. I ordered a replacement adapter as soon as I returned and you probably should as well. Fire hazard, risk of shorting out the adapter and frying your laptop (see keeping pos/neg wires separated and insulated), etc. Risk not worth the cost of a replacement.
