Pretty much this.

Kinect is not innovative.

It's not trolling, it's not bias, it's the truth.

This is your opinion not truth. Dont state your opinion as truth, thankyou.

facts can't be opinions, this is not a new tech, IR depth sensing is not a new tech, you can't combine old shits then call it a new shit since it's just old shits in one pile so it's not innovative, it's more like an evolved tech, MS is generally very good with that, and there is nothing wrong or bad about it.

Eyetoy is nothing like Kinect.

  • The Eyetoy is much simpler than the Kinect
  • The Eyetoy does not have the ability to perceive depth while Kinect does
  • The Eyetoy does not have noise suppression voice location  while the Kinect does
  • The Eyetoy cannot recognize voices while the Kinect can
  • The Eyetoy is pretty much fixed while the Kinect moves to track

  • It doesn't change the fact that Kinect is evolutionary technology.

To innovate is to do something nobody has ever done before, down to the fundamentals. Kinect doesn't do that. I'm not trying to downplay Kinect when I say this, as the Kinect hacks are pretty damn impressive, but Kinect isn't innovative, especially to the point of calling Microsoft the most innovative company. It's called a refinement.

Just like Gears of War. It refined the cover system concept from kill.switch and this other game, I forgot its name.

Or like LBP...or Heavy Rain (which is a hybrid between Dragon's Lair and point and click adventure games on the PC).

With that said, people aren't giving Microsoft enough credit, as Microsoft actually scrapped the earlier depth sensor device in favor of a cheaper device from PrimeSense (I think), and it's the software that Microsoft developed for it which does most of the work.

I agree with your definition "innovate", although it can be used in reference to bettering a prexisting technology, etc., but in the way I assume they are using the word "innovate", they are wrong.

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/innovate

That's cause dumb writers are always trying to sound smart or new with their inferior understanding of the English language, in which leads to the confusion of people reading them and not able to deliver the actual proper point to what they are trying to say, then more people who don't even know what the word even means but love MS goes "OMG MOST INNOVATIVE EVA!" when MS has never been about innovation, but fine tunning.

As usual, the VGC community continues to disappoint me.

Stop criticizing us, hot boob lady.

Lol. But seriously, is it so hard to have a decent discussion? Never mind the fact that the OP is bad enough as it is.

It's OK, i love it.., everybody was just showing their true face.., no more hiprocrisy, no more backhanded compliment, but just the way they are...

I believe some of the technologies in Kinect are innovative for gaming. As a whole not 100% fully innovative. But these days what is? So many ideas are taken from other things (not always related) and applied. That's modern innovation. Just as America invented video games if you asked who invented video games most would probably answer Japan. It is Japan that is seen as the father of the video game world it is because they took it to the next level and made it worldly renowned. This is the same thing that has and will happen with Kinect. Credit is still due none the less.

As usual, the military products all over the world are the most innovative things you will find these days, most things we use tech wise are of military origins around the world, sad shit ain't it? There is nothing called modern innovation, it's just simple evolution, you don't change a word's meaning to suit whatever the hell you want, people are dumb enough as it is nowadays and doing that just makes it worse, just use the right words to start with.

Modern innovation or Evolution my point still stands. I dont care what word is used.

    Yeah, it is pretty innovative.

Too bad Microsoft didn't make it first.

Microsoft didn't make what first?  Windows phone? Kinect? Windows 7?  XBOX 360?  XBOX LIVE?

    I'm not following your logic

phone was invented by Graham Bell, body tracking camera in games was used by sony before, first GUI was invented by Xerox PARC, first home game console was invented by Ralph H. Baer in 1972 and there was online gaming before XBOX Live.

    So M$ didn't invent anything...

Do you people understand that innovate and invent don't mean the same thing? People are always talking about how innovative Nintendo is but that doesn't mean they invented everything. Therefore why is it when Microsoft is called innovative it doesn't count because they didn't invent the tech?

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Using the right terms that people can understand at the start can avoid unnecessary conflict or pointless bickering like we are doing right now. That's why there are still so many countries at war in the world, a lot of them originated from things really really small like a miscommunication from thousands of years ago. You need to take responsibility for the things you say and you have to care what words you are putting out unless you are purposely looking for trouble, in which case, be my guest.

You serious? I mean really serious? Were bickering? I'm not bickering with you. Maybe your butt hurt over something because you read to much into things. Like a simple word which is sad to fight over. My choice of words I didn't consider a big deal. I chose it because I believed their were some innovations within kinect for motion gaming. And you go into a rant because of a conflict of choice of words. Seriously man I don't care that much. My point wasn't that word but what was within the rest of the paragraph. You talk about wars and crap over a word in a game thread? I mean WOW man is all I can say. But that's a problem with the world. Is everyone has to watch what they say in fear of stepping on someone else's toes. Well sorry freedom of speech is still alive for moment. Just accept someone else's opinion with a grain of salt and move along. No need to get upset over nothing.
