Forums - Microsoft - World of Warcraft with Kinect

USC have hacked a Microsoft Kinect camera and gotten it to control the hugely popular computer game, World of Warcraft.

And the software they used to pull it off, known as Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit or FAAST, is downloadable for free online.

FAAST, built by USC's Institute for Creative Technologies, allows users to play computer games with a Kinect motion-sensor camera by translating body movements into the inputs that would otherwise be triggered a keyboard and mouse, or a gaming controller with joysticks and buttons

Alright..................... This has proven that Kinect won't work with core games argument is BS.

too much work IMO , but pretty neat, it would work a lot better if they could able to track fingers, then i would assign each command to each finger on my hands , its way easier than paunching the air left and right.

Wow I guess this just proves that KINECT will work with core games just fine....just have to have someone creative enough behind it to make it work.

Its proven for the PC not for the consoles

I disagree.  You can  see the lag in between the actions and in a game that requires timing and precision, that is unacceptable.(rts, Fps, tps, racing, etc) Also, for "core" games that most gamers play for extended periods of time(like WoW) Kinect would not be the controller of choice, seeing as it requires to much activity. Of course, Microsoft can prove me wrong if they release a good "core" game for the Kinect.

hmm, seems to show that you can move a character around just fine.  Looks like it would work with something slower paced like an RPG... which could be interesting.  However, it would not work with anything that would require fast paced precision.  This seems like a step in the right direction.  Cool thing about Kinect is the possibilities.

Its being supplemented with additional software is what he's saying. It wouldn't work on xbox. Not that you should want it to, pumping your fist into the air is far from an intuitive control scheme.

Do you mean the game itself is being supplemented with additional software or KINECT?
