What's the point of drinking, the point of being DRUNK?!

People drink alcohol to help them relax, its kinda of a drug that works the first time you try it, then you get addicted to it because your body got used to it and wouldn't get relaxed until you drink more.

but with good moderation people can avoid "getting drunk" and vomiting and all that, i myself don't drink , smoke or do any of these things, if i want to relax i'd read a book , listen to music or play games (people find games unrelaxing but i find even the hardest games very relaxing) , so its just another way to help people relax, lots of people drink tea to relax or work out, or do yoga.

Here are a few cons:

- Intoxication and alcohol poisoning are the most obvious. Shakespeare died from alchohol poisoning. When you're intoxication there are numerous things that can happen.

Holy shit I better start drinking more because that dude wrote some serious plays!

But seriously I drink beer because I like the taste.  I think I've tried somewhere between 250-300 beers over the past two years and by that I mean different kinds.  The feeling is good too but it's really not the point for me.

Really? When I tried beer once I thought it tasted like you'd expect urine to taste.

First off, I in no way, shape or form advocate people getting drunk to the point of losing control (though, I admit to being there more than once myself) and am certainly 100 percent against getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle after having a cpl drinks.  That said...

Having a drink or two can be a great way to take the edge off of an uncomfortable social outing and is a great ice breaker for getting to know knew people and loosen people up.  And, of course is a great way to recreationally relax with good friends.

The reason I drink?  Because there are oodles of alcoholic drinks that taste simply amazing.  The world of beer and wine in particular and also hard liquor is absolutely immense with unending taste combinations that boggle the mind and make tastebuds sing.  I have been a home brewer for 10 years and have belonged to a local brew club and have taken the BJCP beer judging courses.  I have also made several batches of wine at home.  The science behind how these beverages are made is incredibly deep and then drinking the results are even more-so rewarding once you know what went into making it.

A good way for someone to understand what I'm talking about if they don't already know is...

Throw that piss poor quality anheuser busch, coors, etc etc etc beer in the garbage and pick up some real beers like Flying Dog's Raging Bitch, Dogfish Head's 90 or 120 min IPA, Olde Saratoga's (mendocino) Eye of the Hawk, Ommegang's Three Philosophers or Adoration ale or Wollavers Oatmeal Stout.  The list can go on and on.  These are real beers and are made with ingredient combinations that you have to taste to understand why, yes, you can actually drink to enjoy the product and not just drink to get hammered.  Now, lets take it one step further and enjoy one of these beers with a certain food type, and Blammo!  Now, you've just opened up a whole new pandora's box of enjoyment.

You want to know why some people like myself drink?  Wait till you're old enough to do so legally and give a couple real beers a try with an open mind.  You might just realize what I'm talking about and can thank me later.

for now....you're welcome.

If you guys are saying beer taste like piss then you are drinking the wrong beer.  Maybe you should try some German or micro brews (Full Sail Pale Ale, ZiegenBock, Warsteiner, etc).  Drinking Coors Light, Miller Light, and Bud Light isn't the best representation of beer (actually probably some of the worse beers).  I drink too much sometimes on the weekends which I plan on cutting back after New Years.  Anyways, when I first tried beer it didn't taste that good at all.  After you age and try some decent brands then you will realize it isn't too bad (actually taste very good with some brands).  Eat a nice cooked steak with a good beer and you are in heaven.  Just stick in the 4-6 beer range and you won't get too drunk.  Once you hit 8-12 on up range that is when things start getting blurry.  I play extremely well at CoD though after a few beers but if I get too drunk then my stats start falling.

Since we are talking about drugs then might as well say Marijuana should be legalized.  You don't swerve when you drive and there are actual studies that say your driving improves when high (  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z5jkYvKscw ).   You can't overdose from it which makes it basically the safest drug there is.  Sure people freak out or have allergic reactions (go to hospital) but they don't die.  If eaten then there are very few harmful effects on the body.

Oh, the ignorance of a child.

Clearly you've never tasted urine.

Why should I drink? What's the point of it? Does it bring me some sort of benefit? You're talking as if it were a necessity to drink. How has drinking improved your life?

And I don't plan to either. If your personal experiences prove me wrong, good for you!

not my personal experience, thankfully, but a friend's.  Supposedly it is rather salty which I can testify to beer tasting nothing like that!
