Nah, GoTY 2010 everywhere is Mass Effect 2, and they won't want to repeat. Notice how SMG2 won pretty much nothing this year. The same goes for LBP2, for quite a few publications.

I'd have to agree that it'll be a year of strong contendors.  In my mind based on the meta of the previous game in the series the games most likely to be fighting for the majority of GotY awards barring unexpected dissapointment or delay would be:

LBP 2 (probably won't win because it's releasing early in the year but that didn't stop ME2 from doing well)

ME3

Uncharted 3

Zelda SS

Bioshock Infinite (if I don't count Bioshock 2 which I honestly feel is a fair thing to do)

 

and then the games likely to win a few but not many based again on the meta of the last game would be: GeoW3, The Last Guardian (if it even releases in 2011 in the states), Portal 2, Forza 4, Killzone 3, and I'm sure there are a number I'm missing from both this list and the former.

Overall just a ton of competition.

you forgot Skyrim, LA noire, RAGE, Batman: Arkham City, Witcher 2 and Portal 2 all of which are all contenders IMO


oh yeah?  that's a dissapointment.

I didn't want to put in LA Noire or RAGE since they aren't part of a series so it's harder to tell how they'll end up with no specific history to base it off of, but I guess I could base it off the last game by those developers.  You're correct though I forgot Skyrim which should be in the first list and Batman AC, and Withcer 2 which should probably go in the seconds list.

Wow I really hope you don't get to review Skyrim. It's telling that you forgot perhaps the biggest favorite to win GOTY 2011. (I hope Kantor doesn't get to review it either. )

Skyrim is the biggest favorite together with Mass Effect 3 and Uncharted 3.

If you think I have a negative view of Oblivion, ask anyone else on the review team. I positively adore the game compared to, say, Naz.

No love for Bethesda on the review team.

Don't worry, I'm confident that Skyrim will exceed Oblivion in every way.

If anything, though, I'll be reviewing the PC version, because Oblivion on PS3 was a bit of a mess compared to the PC version, where you can mod, patch and generally change everything.

actually if you looked over here http://gotypicks.blogspot.com/2010/10/2010-game-of-year.html you would see that Read dead redemption has more GOTY awards than Mass effect 2, or were you being sarcastic?

Picking a personal goty is never too hard.

For now I have my eyes set on Killzone 3, but Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim have a shot too.

Though all could still be disappointing

What an original idea for a thread. Totally not the billionth "2011 will roxor my soxors" thread on this site. ¬_¬

Oh, and if there'd be any justice in this world, The Last Guardian and Marvel vs Capcom 3 would take home the most awards. (Hey, a guy can dream, right?)

The "big ones", as such (IGN, GameSpot, X-Play) are going to Mass Effect II, and I don't think there's any chance of a sequel to Red Dead Redemption, unfortunately
