Soulcalibur’s Soul To Burn Once Again

By Ishaan . December 25, 2010 . 3:41am

Tekken series producer, Katsuhiro Harada had a little holiday treat for fans with a new Tekken Tag Tournament 2 trailer. But that isn’t all he had. Yesterday, Harada signed off with a tease that he had one more little surprise in store for the next day.

…and this is it. At the link (and above) is the Twitter feed of Daishi Odama, designer of Soulcalibur IV and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny. Odama’s first and only tweet (so far) says just one thing: “SC is back! Get ready, fans!”

Harada had a bit more to say about the new project, although, he refrained from giving away any of the details you might be hoping for.

Harada says that Odama is a hardcore Soulcalibur player, so he understands where fans are coming from. Odama’s own Twitter bio says he’s been playing since the first Soulcalibur game, and joined the development team during Soulcalibur III.

“Of course we can’t comply to every request, but is really wants to hear your opinions so let him(@Daishi_CALIBUR) know what you think!” Harada told fans. He continued: “I can’t say anything abt the platform or release date yet. The only thing I can say is that the SC project has bn officially put in2 motion.”

Harada has quite the fan-following, so it makes sense for him to be the one to introduce Namco fans to the new Soulcalibur project. “I’m really glad that we were able to start work on a new Soul Calibur! Of course, I will continue to support this project,” he stated.

He concluded: “Until now, there was a lot that I couldn’t share with u all & it was pretty tough. But it’s due to a lot of hard work that this was possible and because the fans and Odajima didn’t give up.”

Siliconera staff note: Merry Christmas, everyone!

All fighting games are stopgaps between Soul Calibur releases.

The time will come - soon - when they will announce console-exclusive characters on this next-gen release. Ganondorf and Link inbound on Wii2.

as long as there is no Star Wars in it I will be happy.

even though Star Wars is cool I don't wont it in Soul Calibur.

Probably an 8th gen home console project already, because the current consoles wouldn't be able to handle Ivy's evergrowing breasts anymore.

Damnit, I was exactly going to post this!

Good news still.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

SoulCalibur III, IV, and Broken Destiny were huge disappointments, and even II wasn't better than SoulCalibur. And I don't even want to think about SoulCalibur Legends.

To me, the series is dead. They've fallen into a pattern of removing depth and adding gimmicks. Make the boobs bigger, make the rings larger to help noobs avoid ringouts, make the combos easier to pull off, throw in Darth Vader and Yoda (as if Spawn and Link weren't bad enough), and toss in a character editor. But never do anything to actually improve the mechanics of the game. Because good game mechanics aren't what sells a fighting game anymore.

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown to home consoles, please?

SC III and IV were just huge disappointments to me, I hope V can see a return to the quality of the original and II (Link ftw!)

So ... how much is wearing Ivy this time??

i hope it releases sooner than later, i really liked sc4 alot. put over 50hrs into that game, better bring back the character editior cause that is what made me put so much time into sc4.

A bit on the harsh side but I agree for the most part. Soul Calibur started going downhill with SC3.

could we be getting some tekken characters in soulcalibur? heh
