Forums - Gaming - Can the Ps2 take the crown for the longest supported console?

PS2 will be continued to be supported. As long as Sony cuts the licensing Fee (do they still have it?) small independent devolopers can bring out an low cost PS2 game and sell 50,000 like San Andreas sells every week in Europe or Sell small titles to the emerging markets which Sony sells PS2 to still since its far cheaper than even the Nintendo Wii for that market and an huge supply of games pirated or legal

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Around the Network

Not when the Sega Gen just got a new game for that matter DC gets a new one every year on it's birthday

This should answer your question.

I didn't ask if EA terribly mismanaged their sports games on the wii, if I did I would have proposed they are kicking themselves right now for the idiocy with madden, I asked if the ps2 will see longer support than any other console, A more useful comparison would be the first 11 weeks of fifa10 ps2 to fifa11 ps2, which shows a substantial drop YoY, which had a substantial drop from 09,

looking at EA history they seem to drop major sports titles when sales hit about lower than 300k (looking at madden ds, madden xbox, Tiger woods ps2, nba live wii, NCAA ps2 and wii) so If Fifa has a drop to 12 as it did to 11 it probably won't make it as 13 will probably be the last release,

so obviously your answer is probably not,

seems like hes saying probably so i mean thats what the 11th fifa game on the ps2 the ps2 will probably be the longest legitamitely supported console.

I assumed he did but the reailty implies otherwise
it is down significantly from last year after 11 weeks FIFA 10 was at 750k leaving a drop of about 40%, if that trend continues it will leave fifa 11 at about 900k, fifa 12 will be at about 550k, and fifa 13 could be under 300k , and EA seems to drop series when the game hits under 300k they tend to drop them, to extend past the 2600 it has to reach fifa 15 to make it past the atari 2600 for hardware/software support, and it needs to reach fifa 16 to past the neo geo for software support, hardware has to continue until 2020 to pass the famicom for hardware sales, and his fifa example actually shows the opposite of what he was probably thinking it did.

The decline could slow, but as it is the ps2 could wrap up after 12 or 13 years

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This might be a weird stance but whether or not ps2 will take the crown I think ps3 will end up being supported longer then any other console, Sony made it pretty damn future proof and seems to be trying to grow in developing countries and the ps3 is the perfect thing to spread blu ray not to mention hd-tvs and 3d-tvs I believe Sony is going to keep supporting the ps3 until it becomes ridiculasly obsolete
