Vitality Sensor could very well bomb, or explode in sales, it will depend on its games, particularly its flagship title, Wii Relax. I personally think there is a huge untapped market out there for a sort of meditation/relaxation video game, so I think it'll sell like gangbusters, and lift the peripheral and console sales with it. But it will be the GAME that will make or break the hardware, not the other way around. Obviously people are not gonna buy the peripheral to admire its appearance of stick their finger in the hole (lol inuendo), they will buy it to play Wii Relax.

I think now if you look up vaporware in the dictionary you see "Vitality Sensor and Wii Relax". If you want a HRM get EA Sports Active 2.

Of course there is a justification - the Wii had an additional positive effect on its sales (giftcard) while the Xbox360 had two negative ones (wait for giftcard and supply issues).

It should have been clear to most people that the Wii would see huge Christmas sales:

1) Nintendo platforms see higher christmas increases because they are often bought as christmas presents

2) The Wii wasn't down during the year because consumer interest had wayned but because it didn't get any games. There was just one million seller before October or so and that was Mario Galaxy 2, the third Mario game on the Wii obviously didn't push any hardware.

3) The Xbox360 got a redesign some months ago. Obviously that pushed its sales up additionally.

4) The Wii has a very great christmas line-up this year (and games from last year that are still selling great) and Nintendo put out lots of bundles for the first time.

Take all those effects into account and it is completely logical the Wii boost during Christmas would be astronomical. But most of the time people just compare numbers. They see a console selling bad for like 3 months and assume it is "doomed". That's also why Xbox360 and Playstation 3 constantly change places in "who's gonna be 2nd" discussion. Two months of great sales for console "X" and people assume it'll stay that way forever :-p

Whilst I agree with some of what you have said... imo point 2 is utterly irrelevant.

Are you saying that new potential Wii adopters weren't drawn in by Wii Sports, WSR, MK, NSMB etc etc.? After 4 or 5 years it is game libraries that attract new adopters not a specific game release.

Nope. I'm saying software that is more than a year old isn't going to push 300k systems a week. Of course it is the game library that attracts new users but new games surely help to push sales. Are you saying sales for any system will stay flat and not decrease without any major new releases?

It is a combination of library of games, knowledge that the system is still being supported with new titles (not a specific title) and reputation that keeps the system going.

But but Nintendo was suppose to be doomed this holiday season!

On a serious note...WOW huge week for Nintendo indeed. Some haters must really be sad.

But don't you love how recent sales threads have gone peaceful and quite, with the awesome numbers Nintendo is posting? I'm enjoying it =)

Don't worry. People are just waiting for quaterly shipments numbers ;).

Good for them.. how I wish they would wait for quartely numbers every time (= but apparently they just wait when the wii is kicking ass oh well....

As usual, these comments overall never cease to crack me up. Especially when the usual suspects show up (Btw, this isn't aimed at any fanbase in particular).

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I bet it was aimed at the 360 fanbase....no the wii fanbase....no the ps3 fanbase.

(But yes I totally agree, it is a fun time of the year.)

OR if I point out that Black Ops 360 (and ps3 version too almost) outsold black ops Wii LTD sales this week alone

what purpose would that have? It's useless at this point, we all know what the wii can and can not do in some genre

that's what I pointed at the very begining of this whole argument. Few Wii fans chose to compare MKwii to GT5, why? For what reason? Heck they are not even the same genre. It's useless and nothing but to downplay GT5 sales, which are btw not too shabby at this point. I sincerely hope I got my point across. These types of posts are there to get a rise out of the other side, that would have been remotely acceptable if at least they were comparable on some ground at least.

LMAO

...and you probably never heard an HD fan saying ''Wii is a fad''. I don't know why you get butthurt because people are comparing sales. Last years people were comparing NSMB Wii to both versions of CoD:MW2 even if the games arent the same genre at all. It just interesting to compare numbers and taking bets.

p.s. NSMB Wii will outsold both versions of MW2 really soon! :D

butthurt? LOL ok then if you say so

I think it's stupid to make such silly comparisons. Guess you and Mtool cant' understand that.

and for the record, again, lot of people from ALL sides have said a lot of crap over the years. If you wanna bring each and every one of them again for every argument be my guest. go ahead and quote things like ps3 haz no games, WIi will get 50% market share by the end of the gen, etc etc as well. See how useless that is to a 'current' discussion? I pointed out how stupid it's to compare MKwii sales to GT5 sales 'this' week, cuz you know, that's the thread we are in.

and nsmb? vs MW2? LOL man that's just desparate. comparing a FPS to platformer. you are a prime example of what I was pointing at earlier. Doing w/e you can to downplay others games, even if it means doing absurd comparisons. guess I touched a nerve with my post. calm down and relax ;) it's just a discussion..please feel free to compare wiisports to FIFA11 as well, it will make you feel much much better considering how great FIFA did on Wii. Or compare FIFA sales on WIi to PS3/360. oh that's not fair? That's not part of wii's strength and hence it's not a fair comparison EVEN if it's from the same genre (heck the same game even) ? I hope you understand what I'm getting at with this

@MTool: guess you can't comprehend what I'm telling you and I see this argument is going nowhere. The post i made was in reply to a comparison of MKWii to GT5 in this weeks sales. I pointed how silly that is. You came in and said HD fans do it already. I said are you joking, in the sense that no one has done so in this thread we are in yet what I'm discussing have been done a few times already in this thread. I am not quite sure how holding on to years and years of history of bickering on all sides help you justify such actions, to me it's just immature and serves no valid purpose.

For a second let's say you are saying since x and y did so in the past, it's ok to get back at them (yeah like this is seriouz buzinezz).....then I have nothing more to say to you, you will also be part of the problem I'm addressing but doubt you will ever admit it.

What about comparing two of the biggest franchise of the gen despite the genre it is? Doesnt sound fair enough?
Yeah I know its two consoles vs. one... Oh and just to let you know that they were a lot of users (HD fans and Wii fans) that did that comparison.

And if you want absolutely to compare... let's say FIFA Wii to FIFA PS3, I have no problem with that either. The only thing is that you will probably be the only one to do this comparison.

I tried to tell people this but nobody seems to listen.. I seriously doubt that there are that many people willing to shell out $300 JUST for an add on that currently supports 16 games, and only has 3 or 4 with ratings over the 80% range.

Now in all fairness, 360 is still selling strongly, and I do actually believe it may be a little undertracked this week. However, the fact that Kinect is pushing all these 360s I believe is a myth. What's mainly pushing the consoles is the continued effect of the slimline model, which offers far more value as well as simply more reliable, as well as the mega hits Halo Reach and Black Ops. GAMES are what sells consoles, not peripherals

That does not bode well for the Vitality Sensor that you and a lot of others claim is going to skyrocket Wii hardware sales and keep it on top next year, now does it? Or are Nintendo peripherals exempt from this rule?

PS: I don't think that Kinect is the main seller for hardware this holiday season either though, it appears to be a combination of factors; blockbuster games, good bundles, good price, console re-design and Kinect all put together is bound to have a good effect.

How can people really relax with that thing pinching their fingers? I guess VS was delayed to redesign it to pinch something else... NO, NOT THAT!!!   =:-O

I think that comparing Mario or Mario Kart with Call of duty games makes somewhat sense because they are their console's strongest point, Most PS3/360 owners are FPS fans and Wii owners are platformers lovers.
