Nice on. I liked Miyamoto better when he just ignored such things.

Miyamoto "I could make Halo. It's not that I couldn't design that game. It's just that I choose not to"

i wonder if people working around Miyamoto find him to be arrogant and egotistic or if he's actually quite approachable? i'm really curious, because his statements seem to suggest he thinks very highly about himself... he's got every right to, of course, but i'm curious.

Miyamoto is famous to be a humble man though he is seen like a legend in Gaming Industry.

Looks like that comment ruffled a few feathers, which is silly considering that Miyamoto probably doesn't know what R&C is.

Technically, we could say he ripped off Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince", which had the same idea but was published back in 1943.

Also, the storybook in Mario Galaxy reminded me very much of St. Exupéry's illustrations, so much so that I see it as a homage to the book (and it's worth paying homage to).

Whoa, Good thing I read all of the post - because I was just about to say that. Even Dragon Ball had that idea too. But who really cares, good luck to two great franchises.

Miyamoto is a humble man. If he said he didn't know what it was, he wasn't taking a shot at it. He really didn't know what it was.

Also, that Halo phrase is the most misquoted thing ever. What it actually meant was: I could have made a game like Halo, which I knew appealed to existing audiences, but I would rather make something different and try to appeal to new audiences.

dam..

Im dissapointed in miyamoto.

He just dissed insomniac.

I agree with you. Miyamoto has said many times that he doesn't play video games, he just designs them. He get's his ideas from doing things around the house. For example he came up with Pikman because he likes to tend his garden.

So I think that the Halo reference was innocent. (And the Insominiac comment was innocent). And as I experienced one E3- the translators many times over or under emphasize things. It's just like when we take a Japanese web page and have Google translate it- sometimes the meaning gets jumbled.

Also, I am kind of tired of how people are getting judged in sound bites. In order to know someone you have to look at everything they say. You can twist anybody's words if you omit history and context.

That was kid of a jerk comment on him asking if it was a PC game.

and yea i feel sorry for Insomniac for that comment above. it is such a diss...

I'm pretty sure he was serious. From all accounts he's supposed to be a nice guy... and he's not a big videogame guy. That's why he's some sort of mad genius. He makes games other people would like to play because he's the only designer that doesn't really play games. So he doesn't have the bias all game players have in that they tend to make games they like instead of games most people would like.

Do people in this thread honestly think that Miyamoto sits down to a PS3 gaming session every once in a while?

I highly doubt he's even held a PS3 controller in his life.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks
