Forums - Nintendo - American Wii Sales Spike Hard

They are intentionally stockpiling to increase demand... Any good market economist know it is better to have sky high demand than make money off your amazing product-

Nintendo needs to divert more to the US to catch up with the 360. The Wii is ahead worldwide, but Western developers hardly sell any software in Japan (and it seems Japanese developers don't sell much either these days), so third party support for the Wii isn't going to reach full strength until the Wii is in the lead in all markets.

"Ho! Haha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!" -- Daffy Duck

and they will in the long term but it just seems that American demand is going to be around for a while yet Japans comes and goes so when a product like Wii fit creates demand then meet it.

Especially when nintendo probably thinks there's at least one third party looking at wii Fits success before deciding if to create titles for it, lets be honest A wii fit collection of skating, surfing, snowboarding, racing a la sonic zero gravity style games etc type games is something that might just get good press.

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

i blame wii fit in japan--if you look at the numbers the drop was almost as much as the rise over in japan

Following the Black Friday sales blitz, Wii sales seemed to drop hard in America while 360 and PS3 sales seemed prett constant, with the Wii dropping below 360 sales last week.

Any speculation as to why this happened?

 erm... supply constraint?

Very simple. The weekly sales worldwide are almost identical each week. Its a simple redistribution between all the major regions. The US got more around Thanksgiving, and now its Japan's turn (WiiFit) - with Europe getting more as well.

With demand in the US so high, its pointless for Ninty to starve the other regions. They would hate to have a situation where they own NA - but unable to supply enough units - and have lost all the other regions, by not supplying enough!

Also Nintendo got creamed in the Japan and Others last two rounds (NA accounted for almost 2/3 of N64/GCN sales), so I think Nintendo is being preferential to the other two regions in an attempt to win them this time knowing that NA will always be good for them regardless.

What Shams said. and I'm sad that it went below the 360 sales.
