Guerrilla: "We Unleashed More Power" In The PS3

When it comes to designers making games exclusively for the PlayStation 3, gamers and critics alike notice the difference between such projects and standard multiplatform efforts.

The reason? Teams like Guerrilla Games are technically capable of unleashing more and more of the PS3's power. In speaking with 1Up, Killzone 3 managing director Herman Hulst talks about several topics of particular interest to fans of the franchise. Firstly, he does confirm split-screen co-op in one of his answers, as you can see on the second page. Secondly, he talks about how they've implemented 3D, and how the feature shouldn't impact the game's frame rate; Hulst says they've "found a lot of power." Thirdly, there's plenty of discussion about the Helghast, simply because they'll be more in the limelight this time around. But going back to that "finding extra power subject," Hulst responded as follows to the question, "Is the PS3 so complicated that all that extra power was waiting to be found inside?"

"Sheer optimization. We have a very talented technology team. They just kept hammering away at it. They just found more space and unleashed more power, basically."

Then, when they asked if the team is sharing this knowledge with other studios, Hulst replied:

"Sure, yeah. The tech directors in particular. They regularly talk and share concepts. People always think we share engines, and that's not so much the case, because we're making very different games. We're the team that makes the FPS. You can't just exchange an engine, but you can converse and exchange concepts. I think on that level, the biggest chunk of collaboration happens."

We've often heard of Sony's exclusive studios working hand-in-hand in terms of technical assistance; you may recall Sucker Punch talking about how they've learned a great deal from Naughty Dog. Perhaps there was evidence of that learning in Sucker Punch's excellent inFamous... But anyway, considering the rock solid beta and the team behind KZ3, one just has to assume it's going to be pretty darn good.

They unleashed the whirlwind of their Wrath , their development kits never tire.

Well, this is what traditional 1st party console exclusives were all about, refining the code further and further and getting closer and closer to the hardware underpinning it.

I hope the SP campaign is a bit better this time around as well.  I heard they were taking it more seriously which is also good to hear.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

The most important thing, by far, is the confirmation of splitscreen co-op. Hell yeah!!!

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.
