Forums - Gaming - Are people not expecting Skyrim to be a bugfest?

I have no such belief.

Can anyone reassure me that this game won't be a mmo?

I can see my excitement for this game turning into disappointment if it turns out to be a mmo.

That would suck big time. Seems like half the games being made at one point were MMO's, appears to have stilled a little bit though.

I'm actually hopefull it won't.

Vegas was another developer and they clearly struggled to add their code to the existing codebase - a common problem trying to build on someone else's code - and the developer's previous title was buggy too, so I think Vegas is a red herring that has to be judged alone

They now have ID Tech5 available plus Caramack, surely they'll leverage that for Oblivion 5?  If so, I wouldn't expect too many bugs.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

no ID tech 5 it's built internally apparently

There was some debate over what engine the new Elder Scrolls game would be using, and all signs seemed to point to GameBryo. However, writing on Twitter earlier today, Bethesda Softworks community manager Nick Breckon said: “We can now confirm that the TES V: Skyrim engine is all-new. And it looks fantastic.” I asked him what “new” means in this case, and whether it was simply a new version of the Gamebryo engine that powered Oblivion and the recent Fallout games. He responded: “It’s a new graphics/gameplay engine built internally. We’ll have more details down the road.”

Interesting!

Yeah, just saw that like 5 minutes after posting!

New engine from ground up sounds good, although I'd still trust ID tech more than Bethesda softworlks tech - but hey, a new engine is better news than trying to squeeze more out of their GameBryo codebase which I felt with Fallout 3 was definately reaching its useful limits vs a true upgrade of tech.

There's a HUGE difference between publishing and developing.  FFXIV was a massive mess, should I expect FFXV to be an unfinished mess when it's released?

As for Bethesda, every game has bugs.  Some games have more bugs than others, what's important is that those bugs don't completely break the experience and there aren't a lot of them.  I found my faire share of bugs in Oblivion and a few in Fallout 3, but they were either incredibly minor or incredibly rare so I wasn't really upset.  Like I said, every game has bugs.  If you wanted the thread to be about games Bethesda made, you should have stopped at Fallout 3.

Obsidian, the developers of New Vegas, on the other hand, they're games have lots of bugs and bad bugs.  I haven't played New Vegas but I have played NWN2 and KotoR 2 and, well, I'm not surprised about New Vegas.  I had to stop playing both of those games because I encountered game breaking bugs that I could do nothing to get around.

Oh, and lol, Alpha Protocol

I agree that Obsidian seem to have a habit of releasing buggy games, but I honestly think Alpha Protocol is one of the most underrated games of the gen. I got it for £5 on the Steam sale yet I kept thinking to myself, "I'd have paid full price for this!". Plus, I rarely encountered bugs (although their were a few, particularly near the end).

A reason for me posting this, is that I saw the rumblings and people upset over the bugs in New Vegas.  I would of thought this would of maybe changed the minds of some, and cause them to be more careful about Bethesda in the future.  So, the state of New Vegas had NO impact on anyone here?  Or did it impact that you are hopeful, but will take more of a wait and see with Skyrim.

Again, New Vegas had no impact on Bethesda because Bethesda didn't develop it.  New Vegas should continue to make people wary of Obsidian, not-so-much Bethesda even though they published it.
