Forums - Microsoft - Microsofts NPD spin

No question that 360 sales are very strong in the US. Bu they aren't THAT far ahead of the Wii (in $ terms), and I think the Wii will be ahead in raw software units sold - or close.

Challenge for the 360 is outside of the US... as usual!

But Nintendo also released their biggest game Mario Galaxy that month. Nintendo's revenue was bound to be peaked because of it. Also Nintendo clearly sold more hardware than Microsoft. So it will be a while before Nintendo can catch up in revenue dollars in US. Yes, as usual, Microsoft needs to make larger presence outside of America.

XBox has broken out of the XBox sales pattern in NA... THAT's the big news. 770K sold in November, when previous Novembers always did around 500K, for both XBox and 360. Everyone was expecting 360 sales to accelerate beyond XBox practically since it launched, but 2006 was pretty much par for the course, and so was most of 2007. The Halo bump was just a bump, but this is not. This is significant, growing momentum for the first time in XBox's history. A round of applause for a holiday well-played by Microsoft, and two rounds for the third parties who made it possible with great software.

"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

BTW: revenue is meaningless. It's the stat that game analysts will use to sell the industry as a whole. But unit sales and profits are more meaningful for examining which companies are most successful.

If they go for total revenue they should include eBay auctions for the Wii. The Wii would definitely win that way.

Edit: Ok, I just wipped out a calculator. Wii revenue would still be less, but it would probably be $20 million closer.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

Xbox 360 - Consumers voting with their wallets, Xbox 360 winning this holiday Fueled by the greatest holiday lineup in video game history, consumers spent more holiday dollars on Xbox 360 consoles, games and accessories than any other platform in the month of November according to NPD. #1 in Game Sales: Four of the Top Ten Titles are on Xbox 360, compared to three on the Wii and two on the PS3. Xbox 360 holds the #1 title with "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" (Activision), selling nearly 1.5 million units on Xbox 360, compared to 444,000 units on the PS3. #1 in Total Revenue: Xbox 360 leads in total revenue with $763 million compared to $587 million for Wii and $364 million for PS3 according to NPD. #1 in Game Quality: Xbox 360 delivers the highest-rated games lineup this generation, with 6 out of the top 10 rated games through the end of November according to Metacritic, the world-wide authority in entertainment reviews

Most important: the 360 is no longer selling the majority of software. Last month, Microsoft was quick to point out that it sold more software than the PS3 and Wii combined, with 54 percent software marketshare. The fact that they make no longer make such a claim (instead just saying they are "number 1") almost certainly means they are only a plurality instead of a majority.

It just so happens, as well, that this month marks the first time the Xbox360 is a plurality in hardware sales as well, instead of a majority.

Crackdown is fun... definitely a great bargain bin pickup.

I agree, but only for a bargain price. My room mate bought it and while it's fun to run around and stuff, I wouldn't have wanted to pay full price for it.

Just to legitimize that I have played it, Wang tower is a freaken bitch to scale. Ugh, especially if you try to try to climb it all from the inside with the 10 guys on each floor with rocket launchers.

Man Eugene you must be real happy now that 360 made all that money. Well is their game division actually making more profit than Nintendo, or if any. If so please send me the link.

By the way the majority of those games sold on 360 are third party. Its a pity that Microsoft cant continuously develop great games that sell. i guess they just dont have the same talent as some other companies.
