XBox has broken out of the XBox sales pattern in NA... THAT's the big news. 770K sold in November, when previous Novembers always did around 500K, for both XBox and 360. Everyone was expecting 360 sales to accelerate beyond XBox practically since it launched, but 2006 was pretty much par for the course, and so was most of 2007. The Halo bump was just a bump, but this is not. This is significant, growing momentum for the first time in XBox's history. A round of applause for a holiday well-played by Microsoft, and two rounds for the third parties who made it possible with great software.
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
