"You guys...?"  I for one hardly mentioned it.  But don't you think it's kind of ironic for one to claim that Microsoft is being smart by shying from overhype but yet it's a tactic they recently employed?  I'm not criticizing Microsoft here.  Just pointing out the irony of claimed situations.

I think the point he is making is that the 500m ad campaign isn't unusual in this industry in this quarter.

no, he seems to be pointing it out as unusual as he is implying that they are overhyping kinect.   However, the fact is that it isn't unusual, it is actual about the normal amount of money spent by all 3 companies (sony, nintendo, and microsoft) in advertising their products durring the holiday quarter.

So, to be quite honest, microsoft isn't really "overhyping" kinect.  Unless you want to say Sony is overhyping the ps3 and Nintendo is overhyping the wii as well.

too bad...Gears of War 3 is my most anticipated 360 game of 2011, would've love some new information/trailer

But of course.  But it's still a lot of hype.

So now an ad campaign is hype?  It's called advertising and it's something that every company does for every product, the amount of money is irrelvant to whether it constitutes hype or not.

That budget also likely covers an entire year (or more), not just launch.

Overhyped because of Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3 and Elder Scroll V along with new trailers for Resistance 3 and Batman Arkham City? Yeah you may not  like the games announced there but it wasn't overhyped shit.

Yeah good one. And clearly MS didn't back away from this as  Forza 4 was announced there.

You misunderstand me.  There were some cool games announced there, but announcing them AT THIS AWFUL, HORRIBLE SHOW is a waste.  Most of them would do better being announced and revealed as more than non-gameplay teaser trailers (save Resistance 3) in other ways.

And, for the record, it was also overhyped because there were VERY few surprises, with the biggest having a "Coming in 2013" attached to it making it the worst thing at the show.

Sorry, as someone that loves gaming I just think this show year in and year out makes the industry and the games look worse and worse.

So would you consider "It Only Does Everything" hype, overhype or a simple statement of fact?
