Eveybody saw what were the last PSP2 rumor for the ones that didn't ( http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/08/psp2-rumor-points-to-ps3-ports-early-ps3-level-graphics/ )

IGN is the latest outlet to claim an inside source with hands-on experience handling Sony's latest rumored handheld, the so-called PSP2. While IGN's source doesn't contribute much to the overall impression we've assembled so far, it lends further credence to the rumored featureset (and also corroborated the previously leaked image, seen above): dual analog sliders, a UMD-less PSP Go-style slider design, a rear-mounted touch panel, a "slightly larger touch-enabled display" and both front- and rear-facing cameras.

What is new from this particular source are impressions of the portable's power. IGN reports that the processor is "just over half as powerful as the PS3" and should be capable of producing "graphics comparable to early PlayStation 3 titles." The lower resolution screen will surely help minimize the quality gap between the PS3's beefy innards and whatever's powering the PSP2 so then, the question is how Sony distinguishes its gaming lineup if both consoles are graphically competitive. IGN says, "It seems that Sony aims to allow developers to port or custom-tailor PlayStation 3 titles for use on the handheld, potentially to create a ubiquitous gameplay experience that could sync seamlessly between the console and the handheld."

This, of course, leads to the long-imagined "start a game at home and take it with you" model that executives, and some particularly obsessed gamers, have long dreamt about (remember the Dreamcast VMU?). Better technology was never enough to put the original PSP at the top of the handheld gaming charts and with competition from the 3DS and, more notably, smartphone platforms like the iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 7 and even the also-rumored PlayStation Phone, it raises the obvious question: Does anyone want a PS3 in their pocket?

What will be the outcome? (Second pool)

It only does everything, even burn your fingers (Mini-Cell )

It only does everything, for 2 minutes

It's Dead on Arrival (too uneasy to put a abortion pic, you can search by yorself)

Sony will price it over 9

where's the "casual gamers can go fuck themselves hardcore only handheld FTW!!" option...........

i think SONY has learned alot but rather spend millions on an PSP2 instead skip an ahead and invest more in there bendable screen tech and by 2012-15 release it and dominate the market

but thats the psp3

As for the PSP2 if they are able to have this play at home then play away from home gaming then it would be an success.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

If one thing hinders its success it will be the price.

People are already complaining about how expensive the 3DS will be, and with the rumored specs of the PSP2 there's no way it'll be cheaper than the 3DS, but rather more expensive.

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

It won't "fail" imo, but it will be raped by anything Nintendo and Apple cooks up.

Exactly what he said, if the PSP2 does not launch at $250 or less it will have a very hard time competing with DS & IPOD.  Also $ony needs to  secure some big exclusives maybe like MGS2/3 ports from third party's.  They defintly have the first-party games to back-up the new hardware.  The PSP2 will not fail but it will have really tough time in the market if $ony doesn't execute the game plan correctly.

Depends on how you define "fail" or "dead on arrival." I would define both as the PSP2 selling so bad in comparison to the 3DS and smart phones that Sony will not create a PSP3.

From all the "rumors," a price point of $299 or $349 will leave many US consumers thinking "why for $100 or $50 more I can buy an iPad and have a multiple use device instead of a single use, gaming device?"

Common sense here, the consumer is not stupid and never has been when it comes to luxury goods. Sony with the PSP2 will have to justify it's price point beyond "rivaling PS3 graphics." If it is going to sell it is essentially going to have to have Internet capabilities comparable to the iPad, high definition movie steaming via NetFlix and Hulu, and a high pixel in-built camera.

If the PSP2 is released mainly as a gaming device at a price range over $250, I believe it will be the last hand-held Sony will create because of a lack of sales due to competition with Apple's iPad, the Google Android, the Microsoft Windows 7 pad computer, and the Nintendo 3DS.

People forget that when the 3DS and PSP were released in 2004-2005 the hand-held market was completely different. The iPhone was not even out yet and gaming on cell phones was in it's infancy. Fast forward to 2011 and 2012. Sony and Nintendo are facing a market where the competition is much more varied and not a red ocean between Sony and Nintendo.

It'll probably be overpriced and that's what will kill it. Anything over $200-$250 and it has no chance against the 3DS

I think PSP2 is going to be aimed at such a different market, that it does not even make sense to compare it to iPod and DS. IMO the smartest thing Sony could do is just focus on making this the most hardcore platfrom on the market. Sell it for a profit on hardware, put it out at like $899. Don't worry about massive 3rd party support, just get great titles. Develope world class games in house, and even if it only moves 30M life time, just make sure it is profitable.

So I don't think it will so much fail as be a different kind of product/ brand. Basically, Sony makes the Bugatti Veyron, and Apple and Nintendo try to make the Camry and Accord.

I think the PSP phone is were Sony should focus the efforts in the iPod/ DS category.

Few things:

1. We don't know jack (*%& about it...the specs, what price it will be at, gaming line up...absolutely nada

2. All we have are bunch of rumors, that change every darn week nowadays, credibility is zero

3. PSP did just fine, PSP2 will do the same. Heck if Sony play their cards right they might even beat the 3DS in the long run? Impossible you say? Yeah like gaming giants don't fall in this industry, Ninty is no exception.

4. PSP2 doesn't need to beat 3DS, it doesn't NEED to beat Iphone or any of those devices. If it brings SOny profit over time, then that's a success. There are different types and levels of success, sadly not even so called gaming experts such as patchter understands this (then again the man did predict GT5 to be around Dec. 20th or so...so he does have credibility)

5. 2 nubs: THis is a given, i don't care what rumors say but Sony will not (if they do they are HUGE idiots) let this feature fall off the PSP2. If sony play their cards right, games like COD, KZ, Battlefield etc on the go, with trophy support will be a HUGE advantage the device will have. THis is where I think 3DS dropped the ball with, even if Ninty followed Sony PSP and added a analog input, without a second nub, FPS (which is one of THE most popular genre of this gen) will not work well

that's all I have to say as of now. It won't be dead on arrival or doomzed just because some may 'want' it to be...at least saying such things this early on when we have no idea what Sony has to offer is silly at best. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect Sony to have a line up to drive fans crazy with joy at the start either. They are not known for that but they are known for quality titles over time.

So let's wait and see, what the next PSP has to offer us gamers. Until then speculation on the features and what it will do to the device etc are pretty useless.

oh and btw this whole thread topic etc. are pretty one sided. It's almost as if people already KNOW it will be a failure and trying to find the 'reason' for it will be....it might be the exact opposite too
