Forums - Gaming - PC and Console gamers, are you excited about upcoming Handhelds?

Phones are stupid.

3DS ftw.

Really would like to see PSP2 though.

Nope.  Handhelds serve a utilitarian function in my household and gaming on smartphones is quickly taking over.  Already 2 of my 3 kids use phones now for handheld gaming and the other is fine with his DS.  By the time we would be ready to upgrade he will be getting a phone.

That right there is a bit of telling information for all those naysayers who swear up and down that smart phones are irrelevant to gaming.

When kids grow up gaming on phones and are perfectly okay with the games, handheld consoles will have officially become a reduced niche market product.

I'm indifferent towards the PSP2 until we actually know more about it.

I'm excited about the 3DS but there's no way in Hell I'm paying $300 or even $250 for a handheld.  About the max I'm willing to pay is $200.

I find myself in the same state of mind over both handhelds.

phone gaming is shit i get bored so quick

3DS,DS,PSP,PSP2 FTW!!!!

No. And I can say that with confidence. 3DS looks like the only unique thing about it is going to be it's 3D, and the PSP2 looks like sony hasn't learned anything.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

have you tried handheld games? they're different from phone games...

Sure I have all my kids have DS's and I have a PSP.  Only 1 is used much anymore.  They really are used when we travel more than anything.  We take a couple of long road trips each year and thats when they are used primarily.  Yet like I said I use my phone now as do the 2 oldest boys and thier mom.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

still fine with my dingoo a320. I'm pretty apathetic towards handhelds in general though.

OP: Not in the slightest. I never liked handhelds and especially phone gaming. Small screen, poor sound, lousy controls, weak hardware, cheap and shitty games, low battery life etc. I'm fine with my home consoles and PC.

I am very excited about a price drop in the iPad once the iPad 2 is out. Nothing better than having my entire lap top in a tablet with all the high definition movie streaming, Internet, games with PC quality graphics, and on.

Yes, I will be sticking with my PC and console even when I have an iPad or iPad 2. I can't make up my mind just yet, but I do know I will not be buying a 3DS or PSP2 because they don't offer the full range in handheld possibilities that the iPad does.
