Some of us are married and would sometimes like to play a game together. My wife doesn't like racing or fps games which leaves slim pickings this gen.

Does anyone know any rpg's you can play co-op on the same screen? We don't have time for WoW anymore. (definately not enough to justify paying 60 dollars a month for 2 accounts)

Or any good adventure games like Syberia on console? Heavy rain was not a success, she didn't want to play anymore after Jason got lost in the mall and hit by a car.

I kinda felt the same way.  I mean where the hell was Jason going, anyway?  To sell that balloon to buy drugs?  And that car was going 6 miles an hour!!  How did that car kill him?  If it squished Jason, it should have squished Ethan, too.  But try to convince her that the game does get better after that retarded opening.

Get Peggle.  I promise you, your wife will want to play that game with you so much that you will consider murdering her.  Fable III has a pretty good co-op mode, too.

Remember when they used to release games, and you got the complete package? Not missing stuff which you would then have to pay for later. Also whe they released a game, they had to make sure it was good the first time, not patch it up later. Oh and when graphics didn't matter.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2
Borderlands (though there's still a lot of FPS in it)
Fable 3
Sacred 2
DeathSpank
DeathSpank Thongs of Virtue
Castle Crashers

as far as adventure games go, look up what Telltale Games developed on XBLA/PSN. (Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit, Tales of Monkey Island and soon Back to the Future)
Otherwise also take a look at the remakes of the Monkey Island series by Lucasarts or get Fahrenheit on the Xbox Originals channel of your 360.

Tell me what system can render 4 player splitscreen in the campaign. None.

PC could, but there aren't any.

Mario Kart Double Dash did 4 player split screen campaign. Every mode of the game supported 4 player split screen. Pretty sure Onslaught for WiiWare supports it as well. Of course the whole "no system is powerful enough" is a complete red herring. Any console from the PS2 era could have run Goldeneye 64 with full 4 player splitscreen through the whole campaign without a hiccup. Power is not the problem. Design is.

Get Secret of Mana if its a multiplayer RPG you want.  Trust me, you won't regret it

yeah whatever you call "campaign". In racing games it's just a chain of racing events that can be played from the multiplayer menu as well. Pretty much the same thing.

Of course it's theoretically possible, but not when you use modern visuals. Halo Reach, SMG, Gears, Killzone 2, Uncharted etc. CANNOT have a 4 players splitscreen campaign on 360, Wii and PS3. Simply not powerful enough.

But a game could which runs counter to your whole point. Your claim is no system could do it which is plain and simple bullshit. There is absolutely no reason not to have them other than fundamental design decisions. EG we want a pretty game over a game played with 4 people side by side.

On Mario Kart, I only mentioned it because you brought up Mod Nation Racers at one point. It is also worth highlighting because Double Dash allowed 4 players in every mode (with LAN for more than 4 obviously) but Mario Kart Wii lacks this. It highlight the subtle shift in priorities amongst even those developer most dedicated to keeping the local co-op play alive and well. I doubt anyone would argue against Nintendo still being the lead on that one as a console and game maker.

It wasn't exactly my point, Snesboy started to claim that HD twins can't render 4 player split screen, I thought that he meant campaing because that's what the OP is referring to and I said that no system can render them, which is not exactly right, as I corrected myself in my last post. It's only not possible when using current gen graphics. (again PC could even do it with modern graphics)

However what I meant is that there never existed any games with 4 players split screen co-op campaign. Not in this gen and not anytime in the past.

I brought up ModNation Racers when I listed some 4 players splitscreen games., but that again has nothing to do with split screen campaigns.

As for Nintendo I wouldn't call them the ultimate leader on the local co-op front. They do a lot for it, but they're not even close the only company how supports it.

Fact is there are tons of good local co-op games on HD consoles and many people, as we can see it in this thread, apparently have no freakin clue of how many there really are.

You are taking my point to hyperbole for no apparent reason. I never even remotely claimed no one else was doing it. However stick a list of games released with local co-op by all companies involved next to each other and Nintendo is going to win by a mile or more. It is little surprise to as that was the initial goal of the Wii. Other companies are absolutely on board, but Nintendo spear headed it, and continues to put out the most games with a focus on it.

Microsoft is certainly trying to push down the same path with what we have seen of Kinect. Sony continues to make a few steps in that direction, but I haven't seen much substantial from them. Definitely moving more towards that end though.
