For a long time, I've been wanting to make a "best trilogy/series" thread where Harry potter, Star Wars, Lord of thr Rings, Toy Story, Bourne Identity, Back to the Future, etc. would battle it out for the crown.  The only criteria is that every movie in the franchise had to be good.  I didn't know how to go about it but I would LOVE it if somebody made such a thread.

I could do it if you want.

Do it!  Just give the current ___________vs Star Wars threads time to die.  Don't want to dilute the hot topics with too many movie comparison threads.

LOTR : Return of the King = Best movie ever.

LOTR > All

Warning: Epic Post Imminent!

Tricky... both trilogies are great examples of what good, old school fantasy cinema should be. It's time to do a heads on comparison!

Hero

The hero is probably the most important guy in a story, especially a sci fi/fantasy. The audience needs somebody to root for, to be able to emphasize with, and, for lack of a better word, a “normal” character to help them deal with insane shit.

Both Luke Skywalker and Frodo Baggins are kind of similar. They're not particularly important people from rural areas who are summoned by wise men to partake in adventure. However, there are a few important differences. First, destiny. Luke was pretty much destined to be a hero, being a son of a dark lord and being watched over by an old wise guy. Frodo inherited the ring from his uncle,%

While I love both trilogies, I'll go with LOTR. Gandalf FTW!!!11!!

Of course, after spending an hour making a reply, the thread is abandoned...

LotR for me, but its close, damn close. The Star Wars trilogy has a special place in my heart.

Salnax; WOW! What a post!

Well, I started thinking about it, and the Lord of the Rings was pretty good, but then Star Wars had some good points, and before you know it, I had written over 3,000 words.

Most fun I've had all day.

I'd quote your other post, but that's rather long...

I read it, and it was very interesting to see how you came to your decision. I agree. I love both, and this was very hard to choose, but I ultimately went with Star Wars. Partly for the reasons you listed, and partly because I'm a space nut/aerospace engineering student, so I'm a bit biased. Also, I'm not sure how to explain this, but when I read a book or watch a movie, I really love forgetting that I'm not actually here, and that I'm a part of the universe of the book or movie. Nothing has ever done that quite like Star Wars for me.
