Forums - Gaming Discussion - Australia may finally get a R18+ Classification for Games

VIOLENT video games have no "greater impact" on players than movies or music clips, government research has found just days ahead of a decision expected to allow the sale of R18+ games.

Games are currently limited to a top rating of MA15+, which means violent titles are either banned outright or have some graphic content removed.

In some cases, games have been given a MA15+ rating here despite copping an 18+ rating overseas.

About bloody time.

So no more jokes at the expense of Australia and their video game policies? DAMNIT...oh well I still have Middle East and Germany (wait do they still ban games?) !

Hopefully for all you Aussies you get this rating so your games don't have to be censored!

I'm not quite counting my chickens..... but it's about bloody time.

About damn time.

Games like Left4Dead 2 suffered from this bullshit but looks like it won't have to for any longer...

When you look at it the amount of games that are banned is pretty low and then you are still legally allowed to posses them so just import and you wont have any problems. And as well games like GTA 4 and AVP are not censored when they were both practically banned originally. with GTA it got edited but now is not.

Though i am all for R rating it makes it harder for kids to get games that are inappropriate for them. I want it to come in a few more years when i am 18 so then i can get them as my parents are tight and think that violent games will decensortise me to violence when in fact i am a peaceful person and not inclined to aggression.

If they don't allow it now that pretty much just sums up how intellectually dishonest government can be.

Lets hope they go where the research leads them...

we still have the rules that no one under 18 can see an 18 movies, same with games, and same with 15 movies and games. the business gets fined if caught and our government loves catching people and fining them, so thats the rules we have. They aren't bad but thats what you Americans wanted in an few weeks ago (well not the gamers) and its has really no impact here

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

If you have an r18 rating then it stands to reason that people under it shouldn't be able to watch it, of course such rules aren't terribly enforcible.
