SMG2. I actually LOVED SMG, but SMG2 did not grab me as the first one... I didn't buy it, but played it at a buddy's house and concluded I would never buy it.

Also, maybe Bioshock 2, even though I kinda knew that wouldn't live up to the first one, which I absolutely loved.

AAAAND the biggest of them all:

Heavy Rain.. The story, was not actually that different based on your choices. The bad guy was always the bad guy and the story made you think that there could be many different people who could end up as the bad guy given the choices you made. You just finished the game with 1-4 main characters and even some could not actually die. "Pre-hype" led you into thinking there would be MANY different stories, but in reality "there was basically just one", with some different elements to it. I loved the game though, but was very disappointed by the ending and how the story unfolded.

Everybody could die in Heavy Rain.  I'm just pointing that out.

Someone else caught that I see, and there's more wrong too:

- Pre-hype didn't indicate more than one story, but many ways to tell it. Although the main basis of the story won't change, there are quite a few different outcomes (a rubberband effect).

- Of course the bad guy is always the bad guy. He'd have to write several complete scripts if otherwise (which wasn't promised). He made it clear that this script was over 1,000 pages and the story itself was the story (one story), but with many different outcomes and twists. He made good on that (even though some parts of it have holes - but that's another thread).

There is no "wrong" about what I thought it could/would be. There are a quite few outcomes, and they are basically all the same with few differences, and (TO ME) rather boring and not really significant. Not what was hyped AT ALL (different stories unlike any other game, not endings). I know you loved the game, and I did as well. BUT I was very disappointed with the "multiple stories", since they were basically just different endings. Also, it was basically impossible to fail, because the game was rather easy, so one had to deliberately try to fail to get a different outcome, so they never came naturally (to me at least).

Why is the bad guy ALWAYS the bad guy? One of the good characters could've easily been the bad guy due to his/her behaviour, it wouldn't have been too hard to implement an ending where that person was the actual bad guy, because I actually thought she/he could've been MANY times during gameplay (I actually thought Cage tried to make it confusing like this and was very disappointed that the bad guy ALWAYS was the bad guy). When I first finished the game, I even said to myself and my friends: "Lets go back and see how it is when this person is the bad guy" and EVERYONE was on the similar page. We all thought there were multiple bad guys.

And didn't he say the script was 5,000 pages? I'm pretty certain I remember he said that at one point, but cannot find a link. However, I do find links saying it was over 2000 pages, not 1000, which is a huge difference.

And no, if I am wrong you are wrong, because I tried to make one of the mains die (in two or three different scenes), and that person could NOT die in those scenes, even though it could've easily happened.

I'd have to say Bayonetta, it has great visuals but everything else in it just doesn't compare, terrible storyline, shallow characters and gameplay is mostly about quick-reflexes which frankly I don't have.

It's a spiritual successor to Devil May Cry gameplay wise. You are missing the point entirely if you are rating a game like Bayonetta on storyline and character depth. The gameplay is top notch; maybe you don't like the genre?

OT: Mass Effect 2 is slightly overrated, not by a lot though.

Demon's Souls Official Thread  | Currently playing: Left 4 Dead 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, Magicka

God of War III, only because it was God of War II with better graphics and boss fights.  I was expecting more variety in enemies and fighting larger amounts of enemies.  It's like the creators didn't want to take a single risk and change something up.  It's a great game but if a sequel doesn't change the formula at all, it should not be rated highly imo.  Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, but it was God of War II with a new paint job.  I wished they would have let you keep the titan powers and combine them with the god powers and then fight double or triple the enemies.  It would have been epic fighting 6 cyclops at once.  My last gripe is the bullshit, the power was in you all along, cliche.  Why not let me be completely powered up at the beginning of the game?  Oh, that's right, that would involve changing up the formula from God of War II.

I would have to say MAG.

What a truely awful game.

I doubt I'm missing the point since I've actually played the game and it failed to impress me, the fast-based reflex-button smashfest-controls that the game contains just aren't my thing and I'm hardly impressed by visuals only. Haven't tried DMC yet, but if it's the same I doubt I ever will.

I do like Beat em ups, Yakuza 3 is one of my favorite games this gen, I loved Batman: AA and thought that God Of War 1-3 were decent.

It's just my opinion, no need to get defensive about it, I absolutely loved Mass Effect 2 and it's maybe my favorite GOTY-candidate this year. :)

God of War!!!

I doubt you ever played it. I hate the fact that God of War is one of those games that are "cool to hate"... Theres a lot of hate on the franchise, with nonsensical reasons (button masher ???? yes...but only if you want it to be.. you can pull off insane combos for more red orbs or button mash...your choice)..

I have a few but it's pretty much in line with others Heavy Rain, God of War III, and Final Fantasy XIII.

Note I don't mind FFXIII just it's not a good Final Fantasy and it got higher marks than it deserved.

Others ? if you mean 1-2 people for GoW III

You thought it was appropriate to say this twice ? :/

Over-rated? I imagine I'll get some flack for this too, but for me I'd have to say God Of War III.

Really good game, with a prepubescent revenge fantasy story with an ending so ridiculous that I can't believe more people didn't complain about it.

That's not to say the game wasn't any good, but definitely over-rated.

God of War has always been about  "revenge story" or whatever...but fact is, even though the standard is really low...its hell of a lot of better than stories in DMC and Bayonetta, and most other slashers.

The ending made perfect sense to me....there were some complainers.... but

By doing what he did, he released the power of hope to the world, which would eventually get rid of the chaos he had caused...he didn't do it for no reason.

Also, if he lived, he would have to give the power of hope to Athena...the Olympians were powerless, and he had made sure that they won't be able to do what they did to him to anyone else.

But I do agree though...the story could've been better.

*spoilers end*

I love how you quote and say "1 - 2 others" and then have 3 other quotes besides myself!

You funny man.
