Forums - PC - Alienware M11x

IT was voted as the best Latop by CNET and its the most powerfull sub 15" laptop according to Dell/Alienware.

well i am currently looking for an laptop that packs and serious punch but is at least portable and not an potable desktop with an screen attached to it. And the Alien ware M11x fitted all my requirements with the 8gb Rams, and the 2 GHz + Processor and lenghty battery life and latest dedicated graphics.

But i am caution on by laptops because you cant just pull out one part and replace it with another like an desktop

So any one here have it? is it any good?

It weighs 2 kg and pretty small but i heard it can play lastest games pretty good on it for its size. And the M15x is also terrible in compared to the M11x and the M17x is just far to big

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Alienware is overpriced, its fancy looking yeah but you can get a cheaper desktop and laptop with more power , CNET focus a lot on how the thing looks, they're not that big on performance.

I was considering buying this but then I compared the cost of the M11x to an Asus 15 inch laptop with the same specs and I saved about $600.

Here is the one I bought ($1150).

For a bit more you also get a more impressive specimen ($1300).

But for what you are looking for these ain't it, lol. If you really want to game on the go, the M11x is perfect.. It's just damned expensive.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

If you are willing to pay the price, yes. It is still overpriced for the spec and the GT 335M graphisc is still VERY poor copared to cheap desktop cards - you can get a desktop HD 5670 with similar performance for $70. A 'fast' gaming card on the desktop is $190 (6850) and is about 3 times faster.

Realistically in a laptop you can only have two out of portability, performance and price.

so what is the best gaming laptop then

does anyone know?

I think you're looking for something that doesn't exist. You can't have even desktop midrange performance in a laptop unless it's heavy and has sub-30min battery life. If you're willing to settle for 'OK' performance then the M11x and similar are OK. If you're willing to sacrifice portability then you can get great performance.

Have you considered buying (probably for the same total cost) an ultraportable laptop and a midrange gaming desktop?

Also, what games/settings/resolution do you ideally want to play?

yes i guess it is a bit silly,

my laptop is my PC and portability isn't an isssue for me as in on the go/battery life but i'd want to take it to other places i'd stay

i'd want something that can play most modern games and all the decent backlog now properly not worrying about the future games

but i guess theses laptops are very expensive

Could you mention some specific games you want to play? It makes it easier for me to look up benchmarks.

I'd recommend you buy ASUS, I got one for under a grand and it has 4GB RAM, Core i7 and 1GB VRAM

If you want a ultra portable (13" or less) then this is the bestone on the market for gaming/battery life. If you want a mrore powerfull laptop buy a 15", but you will increase the weight, and decreese battery life.

I have a M11X on order because of its size and battery life.
