Not the most portable...and the battery lasts about an hour playing...but I think mine is about as good as it gets for price.  $900, 1.6 ghz i7 (quad core, dual threaded easily makes up for sub 2.0 Ghz), 1 GB dedicated graphics card, "only" 4 GB of RAM though...but that could theoretically be upgraded.

Graphics memory amount bears no realtion to its performance. They sell $40 cards with 1GB now, doesn't make them not suck. What's the model name?

But, @OP, that is the kind of laptop I was talking about for performance over portability. I'm sure you'd want a higher-clocked dual instead of a lower-clocked quad however, for gaming. Games can't use 8 threads on a quad HT

I believe it's this laptop. http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/287079/Toshiba-Satellite-A665-S6093-Laptop-Computer/ ....except I thinkkkkk it only had the 720 i7, not the 740 i7 (I should check that tomorrow...as it would be rather humorous to me if it was 740)...the card is geforce gt330.  One other thing that surprised me with it is it actually has exceptional speakers.

Edit: The only real thing I have to complain about it is for gaming, despite it still looking and running great, I wish it had a higher resolution screen (its 1366x768)

I think AMD are coming out with their own version of Optimus technology. They would be by far the better choice once that was made available as the base GPUs are already considerably better in terms of performance per watt it is just that the overall architecture was left behind by one smart move made my nVidia.

Tease.

Charlie says Mobile 68xx will probably have it.

Thats good, if thats true then it'll almost certainly make them the best mobile graphics chips.

i found this from Dell in an brochure i got in the neewspaper

It is the Dell XPS 15

Intel core 17-740QM processor (1.73GHz)

6GB DDR3 Memory

640gb 7200RPM SATA HDD

 15.6" HD WLED screen

2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 435M graphics card

Blu ray drive

Now while the processor doesn't seem that great 1.73GHz and no signs of turbo boost?? the graphics card and memory looks really neat.

how good is the 435M

Has turbo boost to 2.93 GHz...how much does that cost?

for me in Australia, $1500 AUD

But consider much less n US/europe and there are upgrades like the ram, blu ray drive but i believe the graphics card comes standard
